Duomo of Arezzo
Arezzo was the birthplace of Guido d'Arezzo, the creator of the musical scale, but is more closely related to the Renaissance artist Piero della Francesca. The Legend of the True Cross in the Basilica of San Francisco, the magnificent cycle of frescoes by this artist, has recently been restored and is one of the cornerstones of renaissance art . You can also visit the fresco of Mary Magdalene by Piero della Francesca , in the Duomo Gothic style. the church of Santa Maria della Pieve in Romanesque style , begun in the 12th century and completed in the 14th century, houses Pietro Lorenzetti's Madonna of the fourteenth century and the Child Jesus with saints. It is an imposing piece of architecture that overlooks the Piazza Grande in the highest part of the city. This is where the most important event of the year is held in June and September: the Giostra del Saracino , a medieval jousting tournament. It is also the center of the lively Antiquarian Fair (Antiquities Fair) the first Saturday and Sunday of each month.
