Levi's jeans and jackets are one of the store's claims

Surely you have already noticed that Zara's shelves have been filled with moles , that the raincoats have taken over the streets and that the only accessory you need this season is a pair (or many) of XXL earrings.

Well, it turns out that neither trench coats are on sale, nor polka dots are the new discovery of designers, nor are XXL earrings incorporated hands-free.

In the world of fashion, where almost, if not everything, is invented, there is no choice but REINVENT. In short, when your mom/partner/roommate wants to throw something out of the closet at you, she answers loud and clear: EVERYTHING RETURNS!

They returned Bell trousers, the prints of leopard and houndstooth, the lurex , the military jackets , the Nike Cortez, the tracksuit Kappa , the sweatshirt Champion (courtesy of Vetements), shoulder pads (THE SHOULDER PADS!) and our beloved Levi's 501 (these really never left).

Too late? Have you already got rid of all those clothes that you thought were out of fashion? We have a solution: vintage.

Sustainability and originality, the two pillars of vintage

"It is said of that which is too old to be considered modern but not old enough to be called ancient." Everything that fits into that definition is vintage.

And pay attention to the best: all this fits in Vintalogy, the largest vintage temple in Europe.

If we recycle plastic, glass and batteries… why not recycle clothes? Vintalogy, the largest second-hand store in Europe, was born under this premise.

“Vintalogy emerged as a response to an unstoppable reality today: the rise of second-hand clothing. Other people may be interested in what you no longer like or don't like, and you can find real treasures! Teresa Castanedo, owner of the store.

“There is a growing market when it comes to second-hand clothing, mainly for two reasons. First, for the component of sustainability: the textile industry is one of the most polluting, among other things because of the amount of water it needs. So if people wear clothes that do not have to be manufactured again, it is a benefit for the planet!” Teresa explains.

"In second place, the originality. These are pieces that set you apart. Vintage clothing is very special and fun. It makes you feel unique,” she concludes.

WELCOME TO VINTAGE PARADISE

Many of you may be wondering where all this second-hand clothing comes from. “For most of the store, we work with wholesale suppliers, especially American and European”, Theresa explains.

Then there is a second group of more special garments (such as dresses and lurex), which Marta takes care of, selecting the pieces one by one”, she continues.

Lastly, there is the fancy clothes: “These are firms like Dior, Chanel or Prada and we do buy these from individuals and resell them”, she concludes.

This large 'memory chest' – where we can easily find clothes from 30 or even 40 years ago – contains clothes both feminine as masculine Y for any age and pocket.

Louis Vuitton suitcase (€950, before €2,200)

"There are also recent clothes whose value is not their age, but rather you are buying an Adidas jacket that is worth 120 new and here 40 euros," she points out.

Levi's jackets and jeans from 25 euros, a Hermès silk scarf for 150 (before 360), about jimmy choo for 195, a coat of Max Mara for 250 (before 1,695), tartan print skirts for 40, soccer jerseys , poles of Ralph Lauren

But the thing does not end there, and it is here everything, absolutely everything, has a label. Thus, you can buy each of the objects that decorate the space: an old sewing machine (€120) , a bicycle (€565) , a giant Victorinox knife (€1,000) or even a Lambreta model motorcycle (€2,500).

Do you want more? There is also a section of old magazines and maps and, one of the star claims: the Louis Vuiton trunks and suitcases.

THE STORE

Vintalogy occupies the premises that in its day was the emblematic fabric shop Nephew of J. Martí Prats , at number 10 Atocha street.

Counting on the immense warehouse that occupies the second floor, the store, promoted by the same company as Mercado de Motores, has an area of 1,500 square meters.

“I think that one of the reasons for the success of the store is precisely its size, it is Second-hand ‘El Corte Inglés’”, points out Teresa.

THE WEEKEND PLAN

Despite having been open for just over a month – the first day a lady took an €800 Vuitton –, the location is conducive for the curious, locals and tourists, to discover the store, and that has made music invade the premises on weekends.

Every Saturday there is a concert or a DJ. “In addition, we are planning a aperitif on sundays and spending a small amount, we invite you to drink something -says Teresa-, we are at the gates of the slaughterhouse and we want to join that atmosphere of beers and music "
