Guggenheim museum
The building alone makes it one of the most spectacular museums in the world. Going down the spiral ramp is living one of the peaks of the history of architecture. Frank Lloyd Wright , a star of architecture in 1943, was chosen to mold the Guggenheim Museum in New York with the only instructions from the copper magnate Solomon Guggenheim, that his museum should be something totally different from the existing museums in the city. Said and done , and although in 1959 the building was initially received among angry critics who compared it to a monster mushroom or a washing machine, time has made it one of the first landmarks of contemporary architecture and a symbol clear of the city of skyscrapers. Despite the name, the funds (works ranging from Impressionism to the latest artistic trends) were formed not only with the Salomon Guggenheim collection, but with four other private collections. When it comes to modern art, it has it all. It was restored in 1992 and exhibits some of the greatest paintings: Picasso, Kandinsky or Miró , among many others. Closed on Tuesdays.
