Prague, your thing is pure theater
BLACK THEATER
just like magic, the basic principle of black theater is to fool the human eye . Actors dressed in black before a curtain go unnoticed by the viewer. Given such freedom of movement it is very easy create an optical illusion in which the rest of the elements on the scene , usually phosphorescent in color, seem to move on their own and become characters that interact with the “visible” actors. It was the Chinese who invented this type of silent stage performance, but it was in Prague that the inheritance of George Méliès was collected , one of the inventors of cinema, and the pioneer of interpretation Stanislavsky and perfected the technique.
The first company to turn black theater into a stage genre is the ** Jiri Srnec ,** which has been active since 1961 and continues to attract spectators to this day. The invention has been exported to more than 70 countries but it is in this small theater near the Powder Tower where the original is, for better and for worse. The show probably hasn't changed much since the 1960s, and in front of barely a hundred seats, the misadventures of the leading actors take place, whose raison d'être owes a lot to street mimes and also to Mr. Bean.
This theater has first-class charm and is endearing and kid-friendly, but Image Theater , in its new central location at Betlémská 5, and the WOW Show , one of the newest offerings, are scheduled more elaborate shows.

LATERN MAGIKA
Following the tradition of non-verbal theatre, this subgenre indigenous to Prague is one of the ways experimental theater more suitable for all audiences. Nová scena, the new stage of the Prague National Theater , program it regularly. This season represents ** 'Extraordinary Voyages of Jules Verne' ** ('The extraordinary voyages of Jules Verne'), which puts this colorful technique at the service of the rich imagination created by the author of adventure novels and nods to some of his best-known works, such as 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea or From the Earth to the Moon.
Suitable for children and adults, although in this case there are dialogues with English subtitles. Their presence gives name to the avenue (Národní, which means National) and they are located a few meters from the river and the Charles Bridge.

DON GIOVANNI
It would have been logical for the Austrian Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart will premiere his opera buffa don giovanni in Vienna. But in 1887 the plot of this seducer was considered subversive and amoral, so the composer had to premiere it in his second home, a Czech capital that admired him unconditionally. He in his day called prague theater He showed the work for the first time and the good reception made it a success. That is why Don Giovanni has barely stopped performing in the city . Today called the State Theater, it is the perfect place to enjoy this non-intellectual comedy. It is one of the oldest theaters in Europe and high-level ballet is also programmed there. It is part of the versatile program of the National Theater, an institution that divides its offer into four venues. The State Opera completes the poker of aces.

PUPPET THEATER
So important is Don Giovanni in the city that there is also his puppet version . Puppets are another of the traditions of **Prague and the National Puppet Theater** confirms this. The name of the place is somewhat misleading as it is a smallish theatre. The proposal is the meat of an Asian tourist and it reproduces a miniature Seville, the city where the plot unfolds. It works more as a curiosity than as a real leisure option , but the truth is that to date it has offered more than 5,300 performances and the company has been touring internationally for decades, stopping in more than fifty European cities with this piece by Mozart and also with The magic Flute . It is so popular that the offer of this type of production has been expanded. Theater Říše loutek (kingdom of the puppet) focuses on children's shows.
For those who prefer the typical Prague puppets as souvenirs, there are two shops in the downtown area, on the Nerudova street number 51 and at U lužického semináře number 5.
