Its new pyramidal building seeks to become an international icon
Jacques Herzog and Pierre De Meuron have done it again. On the foundations of some old underground oil deposits they have built a ten-storey pyramid with which the museum specialized in contemporary art grows sixty percent . To celebrate the premiere, this weekend the Tate Modern will remain open until 10 p.m. local time. With an investment of 320 million euros, which includes public funds and private donations, this extension becomes part of a project that houses eight hundred works by three hundred artists from more than fifty countries such as Thailand, Chile, Sudan or Russia.

In The Switch House you will find underground concrete tanks that take your breath away, the first permanent space in a specific museum for performances and live art, rooms dedicated to experimentation or learning... and what will soon become its most coveted corner: the 360 degree viewpoint located on the top floor.
**Performances and concerts will be held in the underground area “The Tanks” between June 17 and July 3**. A more objective example of this free museum, the cultural benchmark of this century: internationalize, give visibility to the work of women artists, bet on contemporary formats, create transnational synergies, invite the various local communities to participate in daily life or become a experimentation space.
