Hotel breakfasts Amerikalinjen a window to the past

a window to the past

maybe the hotel Amerikalinjen just opened its doors, but in this building of Oslo dreams have been forging for a long time.

Exactly a century ago, in 1919 , right in the same place where we woke up today with a coffee and a freshly squeezed juice On this rainy Nordic summer morning, hundreds of Norwegians were waiting their turn to set sail aboard Norwegian Cruise Line ships for the New World and a better life full of opportunity.

A better life in which he fantasized about enjoying breakfasts as abundant, varied and healthy as the one that is now displayed daily in the Atlas Café , one of the gastronomic spaces of the Amerikalinjen hotel, under the supervision of the executive chef Steffen Hansenm.

Freshly baked breads and rolls, artisan jams, homemade granola with organic yogurts , pancakes and bagels – did you know that it was the Polish Jews who introduced them to New York? – and an excellent selection of pastramis, roast beef and cheeses coming from some of the most interesting organic farms in the country, such as Rød Kjerringøy, Rueslåtten or Kjerringøy.

The shipping company NCL – today known for its freestyle cruises, without fixed meal times or labels – has long since abandoned this historic site, one step away from Oslo Central Station.

However, thanks to the Amerikalinjen hotel, which was born with the guarantee of Preferred Hotels and the determination to become a reference address in the Norwegian capital –attention to the concerts and electronic sessions of the Gustav club–, Jernbanetorget 2 is busier than ever with life and travelers.
