Last February 28, 2018 , one of the most emblematic European hotels closed its doors, leaving behind more than 100 years of history and a great nostalgia in the heart of ** Madrid .** The Ritz has not only been an ode to hotel luxury and beauty, but has also left its mark on the history of Spain in the 20th century. Ernest Hemingway, Nelson Mandela, Eva Perón, Ava Gardner, Zsa Zsa Gabor or Madonna are some of the illustrious guests who have stepped on its elegant carpets.
His bar received on several occasions the master of surrealism Salvador Dali , until a cocktail was created in his honor. Here Frank Sinatra he played the piano and one of the halls of him was a hospital during the Spanish Civil War. All this and more is part of the memory of the iconic hotel.
For this reason, **the Ansorena and Piasa auction houses** will be in charge of managing the sale of the more than 4,000 pieces of the Ritz, distributed in 1,500 lots , during the days May 7, 8 and 9 . Previously, they will be exhibited from May 4 to 6 at the Carlos de Antwerp Foundation , located on Claudio Coello street in Madrid.

The Ritz celebrated its opening October 2, 1910 , inaugurated by King Alfonso XIII and Queen Victoria Eugenia . A few years earlier, the Swiss pioneer Cesar Ritz had established the first luxury hotel in the world in the French capital.
The monarch, amazed at the Ritz's ** Paris ** and London , wanted César Ritz to leave his stamp on every nook and cranny of this baroque palace in Madrid. The father of modern hospitality hired Charles Mewes , the brilliant architect of the parisian ritz , to lead the project. He also enlisted the help of Spanish architects Luis de Landecho and Lorenzo Gallego.

The historic property, managed by Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group , is preparing for a new stage, but preserving the unique character and the essence of the belle époque that was breathed in the Ritz. Restoration is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.
