"I have seen things you would not believe". Artificial intelligence is advancing by leaps and bounds. And though we may never get to see the technological milestones Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell or West World, we can already witness how does a robot dance next to a human being in perfect harmony.

All thanks to Huang Yi, choreographer, dancer, Taiwanese inventor and videographer. His resume speaks for itself: immersed in the arts from an early age, among his career it stands out that he has already been a resident of the National Theater and Concert Hall and the National Taiwan Center for the Performing Arts, reason why he is widely considered one of the most accomplished choreographers prolific from Asia. He was also named by Dance Magazine as one of the “25 choreographers you have to see”.

Their trajectory perfectionist responds to a complicated childhood. When he was 10 years old, his family went bankrupt and he had to move from a luxury house to a small room while he attended the suicide attempt of his parents. “I grew up knowing that I had to be a perfect kid. got rid of me every possible emotion passion, anger and sadness, to be that perfect boy, to be like a robot”, confesses Huang in an interview for La Vanguardia.

It was this that led to his other great fascination: the robots. A few years ago he met in Taipei (the capital of Taiwan) to an industrial robot model of the Kuka company with which the lightbulb quickly went on: he could unite the contemporary dance, the visual arts and the field of robotics, all his passions, to take another step in his career

After reprogramming and redesigning it to his liking, his research intertwined continuous motion with mechanical and multimedia elements to create a dance form that corresponds to the data stream, turning the machine into a dance instrument.

In the artist's own words, dance face to face with a robot it is like looking at my own face in a mirror. I think I have found the key to integrate the human emotions in robots”.
