But out of that half a million votes, one destination has stood out with 62,128 (with 23% votes from Hungary and 77% from foreign countries): budapest , the city of night boat rides, of thermal baths, of life on the Danube between Buddha and Pest ; the capital of the scoundrels ruin bars and the Michael Jackson Memorial Tree. Budapest, with its dualities, has taken the first position.

MÁLAGA, THE SIXTH MOST VOTED CITY

Malaga raises its head **(and raises it proud with 36,485 votes) ** being sixth on the list of Best European Destinations, a very good position considering the great competition (and the presence of cities "to know" such as Braga or exotic and beautiful, like Kotor).

Almost one in ten travelers voted for Malaga as their favorite destination in Europe. 68% of voters live outside of Spain , which shows us how much Malaga has become in a strong tourism brand in Europe and has managed to establish itself as an essential visit destination.

THE SURPRISES OF THE RANKING

The vote was such that any of the top five destinations in the ranking could have won the title of Best European Destination, since all of them have added more votes than Wroclaw or Bordeaux (the two winning destinations in past editions).

We already said it in 2013 (call us 'oracle') "Whatever you do, go to Braga". Well now, more than ever, there is a reason to visit this Portuguese city, which has risen to number 2 in the European ranking.

Braga, curiously, has been the candidate who received the most votes from outside their country (78%), being the Brazilians and the English the most in love.

If we investigate among the candidates of the other neighboring country, France, we come across Metz What the city with the most votes in France in the ten years that this vote has been taking place (even more votes than Bordeaux, which was the winner in 2015). Boasts 52,569 votes and a fourth position.

In the case of Italy, Monte Isola stands out in third position with 56,024 votes, the highest number of votes ever achieved in this country.

To the city of Poznań The same thing happens to it, ranking as the city with the most votes in Poland in the ten years of the Best European Destination contest (even above Wroclaw, which was awarded in 2018).

WHAT DOES THIS AWARD SUPPORT?

Best European Destinations has been organizing world votes for years to develop rankings and measure the temperature of the European traveler.

This is reflected in a direct impact on tourism in the countries that lead the rankings proposed by Best European Destinations (be it the best destination of the year, the ski resort, the Christmas market...), which is estimated to be 15% on average.

Proof of this is the increase in a 16% of tourism in the city of Porto (which won the award in 2017); Bordeaux, winner in 2015 and with an increase of one; Zadar, which increased its visits by 25% when it won the Best European Destination in 2016... and a lake etc.

The impact of media publications is estimated in the tens of millions. Will the same thing happen with Budapest or with the Spanish representative, Malaga?
