Buenos Aires in four drinks

Drinking Buenos Aires is this

We feel an instant brotherhood, we justify the chaos of its traffic, we appreciate the schedules, we recognize names, such as Avenida Callao, Paseo Colón, Plaza de Ruben Darío... and 9 de Julio, except for the obelisk, we don't think not so far from our Paseo de la Castellana. We even have another Retreat . That here is not a giant and regal park (that's what the Palermo Woods ) but a district residential and financial , of historic hotels and luxury restaurants , which is not, far from it, the most "cool" in the city.

However, it has become a place of nocturnal pilgrimage because in a few “ blocks ” agglutinates four of the best cocktail bars in the city , and probably the best in all of South America , according to those who collect evenings in the southern cone.

** THE ATLANTIC FLOWER SHOP **

And it's called that because, effectively, it's inside a strange flower shop that stays open until late and also sells bottles of wine. The cat locked up in such a strange business is revealed after 10:00 p.m., when the refrigerator door gives access to a basement that includes a porteño garitazo at 400% , which looks like a port den with graffiti of mythological animals on the walls. A combination (and forgive the redundancy) of music, atmosphere and high level cocktails to which you cannot put a but (not even the finicky Frenchman).

In addition to a cocktail bar balanced and classic (in one of the sections of the letter there is a funny entry that includes "Those who should not be: with topics and typical as the Mojito wave caipirinha "), winks at the Argentine roots, with own creations and twisted from the countries that have colonized the country (Spain, Italy, Poland, Great Britain and France, according to the alcoholic base: Appetizers, Gin, Champagne, Wine and Vodka) and also Creoles-Argentines , which recover some typical ones that had been forgotten. They can be accompanied with some delicious dish such as anchovies with creole sauce, grilled fish with vegetables or meat (eye in the very Buenos Aires, the Parrillero is Peruvian ) .

** EIGHT7EIGHT **

As if it were not enough for them to have the most “ canchero " from Buenos Aires, Tato Giovannoni and Julian Diaz (creator of Ocho7Ocho, another essential, but this time in the Palermo neighborhood), its owners have had the audacity to create your own gin ( House of the Apostles ) and its own tonic ( white octopus ), with those who make what, in the mouths of great bartenders, is one of the best gin tonics in the world . The truth is that it is very Argentine: with touches of grapefruit (national citrus), eucalyptus, yerba mate and Patagonian botanicals ... It smells like Argentina and tastes like Argentina.

** PONY LINE **

From the Florist we go to the stables, to the Pony Line, the Four Seasons bar (Posadas 1086). Both the hotel and the cocktail bar (and the Elena restaurant, with a Michelin star included) were the whim of a Arab sheikh in love with horses . hence the name, Pony Line . As well as the decoration, set in a stable , with flanges, saddles and stirrups, inspired by the “ La Dolfina polo lifestyle ” and that required an investment of around three million euros.

The cocktails are very balanced. Super fresh. And, although there is no possibility of error, if you are only going to take one, you have to ask for the Backhanger which is served in light bulb (green tea tereré, lemon grass, citrus fruits and vodka lemonade), in addition to the beers they make themselves.

Tapas, pizzas, sandwiches and salads… Every tenth of a second dishes with mini hamburgers come and go (remember to clarify very well the point at which you want it, which here tends to rise, and that they have chipotle). It is recommended for the first drink, but it is advisable to arrive early because it fills up (the atmosphere here is more cheto -posh-) .

** THE BASE **

The last of the bars in the area is the base . Here it may seem that we are in New York , both for its modern and elegant decoration where exposed brick, cement, leather, iron, lighting measured to the millimeter and a bar of more than 10 meters rule, as well as for its clientele, executives (it is in the heart of downtown financial) and local celebrities.

The most surprising thing is the youth of its bartender, Ludovico De Biaggi , with their contemporary and super creative mixes in which there are always homemade elements that if a bitter , what if a syrup … The same thing that happens in the restaurant, serves mediterranean food, pasta and seafood on the plate: cuttlefish with lemon, herbs and alioli, lamb hamburger or black rice with squid rings, prawns and tomatoes are some of the options to accompany each of the 26 signature drinks that, in addition to tasting good, have fun and very careful presentations.
