There are many conclusions that we are drawing when analyzing the data and behaviors demonstrated during the past year. One of them is that we have finally realized that we are facing a climate emergency, as has just been shown by a macro-survey carried out by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in collaboration with the University of Oxford. More than 50% of the people surveyed consider that we must urgently undertake all necessary actions to combat global warming.

And, according to the sales results obtained in our country by the Mazda car brand, It seems that in Spain we have already got down to work (or behind the wheel): 66% of Mazda sales in 2020 were from electrified vehicles, including the recently released Mazda MX-30, the first 100% electric model of the Japanese company.

SUSTAINABLE OBJECTIVES

Cutting the environmental footprint of its cars is Mazda's commitment, that offers various models and varied technologies so that each driver can choose the most appropriate to their needs: from improvements in the efficiency of combustion engines to electrification, going through the reduction of the weight of the vehicles or the development of technologies such as the Mazda M Hybrid, a hybridization system that significantly reduces emissions and consumption, improving driving and guaranteeing behavior (and the seal) Eco of the models that use it.

Because the objective of the Mazda Zoom Sustainable Zoom 2030 plan is to reduce CO2 emissions by 50% throughout the life cycle of their products (the target figure for 2050 will be 90%).

THE PREFERRED MODELS

Seven out of ten vehicles sold by Mazda in Spain had some type of electrification, which consolidates the Hiroshima brand as the fourth manufacturer in the Spanish market that has achieved a Greater number of sales of electrified cars in the private channel.

The majority of sales corresponded to the Mazda CX-30, the Mazda3 and the Mazda2, which incorporate, in addition to the Mazda M Hybrid system, the Skyactiv-G and Skyactiv-X technologies, that considerably reduce noise and the level of harmful emissions and offer better efficiency and response. Both the CX-30 and the Mazda3 also boast the Skyactiv-X, a revolutionary engine that reduces fuel consumption (up to 30% less than a conventional one).

The Mazda3 has been designed to “produce emotion and joy in the driver”, as recognized by the brand, which has given the car a sportier look without losing a bit of sophistication.

For its part, the agile and elegant Mazda2 – the urban compact for the city – accommodates the Kodo design ('Soul of movement'), the philosophy with which the Japanese brand transmits life and personality to its cars. Another important novelty of the company is the Mazda CX-30, a compact SUV aimed at young families, which celebrates minimalism on the outside and is more spacious inside. It also includes the Mazda M Hybrid system, an intelligent fuel-saving technology that it recovers energy during deceleration and reuses it to power the vehicle's electrical systems.

But Mazda's great commitment to sustainability has been the launch of the new MX-30, an electric that has light batteries suitable for urban use because, weighing less, they reduce contamination both during use and throughout the manufacturing process. With 265 km of autonomy in mixed use (urban + highway), well above the 48 kilometers that Europeans drive on average each day, this model stands out for its low environmental impact from its very manufacture, for the sustainability of its materials and for "its addictive driving experience", as Mazda describes, a brand as concerned about the environment as it is about human beings.
