In 2021, Qantas reaffirms its position as the safest airline in the world, followed by Qatar Airways (moving up three places) and Air New Zealand (which goes down a step to third place).

According to the editor-in-chief of AirlineRatings.com, Geoffrey Thomas , these airlines stand out in the industry and are at the forefront of safety, innovation and the launch of new aircraft.
"For example, Qantas, from Australia, has been recognized by the British Advertising Standards Association on a test case as the most experienced airline in the world,” said Thomas.
“Qantas has been the leading airline in virtually every major advance in safety over the last 60 years and hasn't had a fatality in the pure jet age. But Qantas is not alone. Long-established airlines like Hawaiian and Finnair have perfect records in the jet era," Thomas added.

Responding to the public interest, Airline Ratings has also developed the list of the ten best and safest low-cost airlines.
In alphabetical order, they are: Air Arabia, Allegiant, easyjet, Frontier, Jetstar Group, Jetblue, Ryanair, Vietjet, Westjet, and Wizz.
METHODOLOGY
To compile the list of the safest airlines, the editors analyze the following factors: accidents, serious incidents, aviation governing body audits and leading associations; government audits and fleet age to make their determinations.
“However, all airlines have incidents every day, and many are aircraft or engine manufacturing issues, not airline operational issues. It's how the flight crew handles these incidents that differentiates a good airline from an unsafe one," Thomas said.
“Our 20 Safest Airlines for 2021 are always at the forefront of innovation in safety, operational excellence and the launch of new, more advanced aircraft such as the Airbus A350 and the Boeing 787”.
AirlineRatings was launched in June 2013 and rates the safety, in-flight product and compliance with COVID-19 measures of 385 airlines using their unique seven-star rating system.
THE 20 BEST AIRLINES THAT COMPLY WITH THE COVID-19 PROTOCOL
Airline Ratings is the world's only safety, product and COVID-19 rating agency, and this year it has added in its report the list of the 20 main airlines for compliance with anti-covid measures.
In alphabetical order, they are: Air Baltic, Air New Zealand, Alaska Airlines, All Nippon Airways, AirAsia, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Delta Air Lines, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Eva Air, Japan Airlines, Jetblue, KLM, Korean Airlines, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, Southwest, Qatar Airways and Westjet.
Geoffrey Thomas states that “These airlines have gone above and beyond in protecting passengers or adding flexibility to travel. All of these airlines have set trends in making travel as safe as possible. For example, Qatar Airways has provided face shields and masks, and Emirates is introducing covid-19 medical insurance and an individual medical kit."

“119 airlines achieve the highest covid-19 rating of seven stars, but it is disappointing to see 117 get a zero for compliance, or have no information for the public about their anti-covid policies on their website,” Thomas said.
For full compliance, airlines must have seven criteria in place: website information on coronavirus procedures; passenger masks; personal protective equipment for the crew; modified meal service; aircraft deep cleaning, personal disinfection kit and incorporation of social distancing.
“We review compliance weekly and update the website accordingly. Most major airlines have implemented a COVID-19 action plan and we have been surprised at how quickly some have achieved full compliance,” said Thomas.
“The next thing on the horizon for passengers will be a phone app with vaccination details, free covid-19 test and passport all in one,” he concluded.
