This is how Finca Vista Alegre will be once restored

From country house for royalty and nobility in the 19th century to park for use by the people of Madrid.

That is the evolution that is living Finca Vista Alegre, a historic park in the district of Carabanchel whose enjoyment has been demanded for years by the residents of the area and which is now planned by mid 2019, when the recovery works are finished.

The intervention, in which they will invest more than 15 million euros, will be held on 11 of the 45 hectares of the complex which, located in the northeastern quadrant, house the gardens and buildings of greater protection. Thus, the integral planning of the Estate, the regeneration of these gardens and their early opening are contemplated.

In total, four years of recovery scheduled in Two phases. The first, which, centered on the gardens and historical buildings of greater protection, will involve area conditioning work , such as felling and pruning of green spaces; of recovery of singular elements, such as the Puerta Real, the estuary or the historical fountains; and of complementary elements , see paths or lighting.

This first period of interventions also includes actions in buildings such as the Rotunda, the Bath of the Queen and the lobby of the New Palace. Its completion is scheduled for 2019 and will involve an investment of five million euros.

The second phase and the remaining 10 million euros will focus on the rehabilitation of historic buildings and the continuation of restoration of the gardens of the Estate, where care and educational institutions are currently located.

In fact, one of the objectives of the Community of Madrid is to achieve combine this public service with others of a cultural nature , while avoiding the deterioration of the gardens and buildings that are empty.

The Estate, which is currently 80% owned by the Community of Madrid and 20% by the State, dates from XIX century , when it acquired great importance for its extension, its royal origin, the artistic quality of its gardens and its neoclassical architecture in which buildings such as the Old Palace, the New Palace, the Casa Bella Vista or the Chapel stand out. The landscape-type garden once had a 700-meter navigable estuary, with a circular island, waterfalls, dams and a jetty.
