Jonesia Dominic, Field Guide at Dunia Camp, Where the Lionesses Roar
In the surroundings of Dunia Camp it is common to see the lionesses resting on the branches of the trees. Lionesses in the trees? But it is that in this area of the Serengeti extraordinary things happen: is the first safari lodge run entirely by women and, of all the camps of the Asilia group, the one that receives the best opinions from guests. There must be a reason.
Angela is the director, Yuster, the head of security; Odilia, the administrator; Jonesia, one of the guides... As a child, Jonesia dreamed of being a doctor, but growing up she realized that what she wanted was to be close to nature. She today she is dedicated to track animals to show your guests just how amazing the wildlife of the savannah is.
Every morning before dawn, Jonesia starts her jeep, prepared for the day's safaris. "Sometimes we have breakfast in the field, and other times we spend the whole day outside" , she explains to us.
What she enjoys the most is watching the animals in action. This is the best place in the park to see black rhinos and, between November and April, millions of zebras and wildebeest they traverse these vast plains on her great migration.”I like them all, but the elephants are my favourites,” she confesses.
When she is not in the field, She takes the opportunity to read nature books and solve any doubts that arise during the safaris. But what she is most proud of, like her classmates, is show the world that yours is not an exclusive job for men: “I feel very lucky to work among women. We love and care for each other. Some people think that women cannot live together. Well, we have shown them that it can be done”.
