Estonia, where to enjoy the best digital life
It is a fact. We are digital. From the time we turn off the mobile alarm in the morning until we turn it on again at bedtime: we work in front of a screen, we chat on WhatsApp, we upload a story to Instagram, we pay for purchases with the (digital) card on our Smartphone or we make Facetime with someone who lives in the other part of the world.
And this digital environment is especially useful for these people reside far from their country of origin, who travel the world working remotely as digital nomads and who need a way to stay in touch with their loved ones.
Effectively, We are talking about expats.
Thus, based on the latest annual survey Expat Insider on living and working abroad, InterNations has published its first report on digital life abroad (Digital Life Abroad Report) and the best and worst countries where to develop it.
The first place in the ranking is occupied by ** Estonia , followed by Finland and Norway ,** where expats are very satisfied with their unlimited access to online services and the possibility of paying without cash almost anywhere.
Finland wins the silver medal
Of the ten countries where expats enjoy the best digital life, half are European.
In addition to the first three places, ** Denmark occupies fourth place and the Netherlands ninth. ** They are followed by other countries of the Old Continent such as Sweden (11), United Kingdom (15), Switzerland (17), Portugal (18), Austria (20), and Ireland (22).
Spain is ranked number 23 and France 35th. Further behind are Germany (53rd) and Italy (57th), countries where expats are highly unhappy with the lack of cashless payment options.
The top 10 is completed by ** New Zealand in fifth place, followed by Israel , Canada and Singapore .** In tenth position is ** the United States .**
If we go to the end of the list, the report shows that expats least satisfied with their digital lives are those living in Myanmar (position 68), followed by China, Egypt, India, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Peru, Turkey, and Uganda.
In these countries, expats struggle with lack of online government services, the difficult access to high-speed Internet in their homes or even the restrictions on the use of online services.
