Airport stories the project that collects the stories of travelers passing through MadridBarajas

Let's quench your gossip vein

airport stories is a project of proper names, beginning with those of its creators, Marta Lopez and Lisi Ruppel , two young people from Gran Canaria living in Madrid who, in their many conversations about their passion for traveling, always came to the same point: airports.

“We always talked about exciting stories that we could find there, of the very different people who are there for different reasons. For this reason, one day we decided that we wanted to collect those stories and record them somewhere”, they explain to Traveler.es.

This project (which you can follow on Facebook and Instagram ) is born from the passion to cross borders, of the pleasure of observing travelers and playing to imagine their life and the time spent in airports, those places of passage, essential for many of our adventures. There hugs are shared, kisses are received, we fly towards the unknown or return to the comfort of our place of origin.

Airport stories was born on September 13 and, since then, Marta and Lisi they have already hoarded 60 complete stories , made up of a photograph and the words that travelers from the Madrid airport wanted to share with them.

“We believe that the stories of all people are interesting and it is worth knowing the reason that led them to be there at that moment. After all, our idea is to capture the diversity that is concentrated in airports” they count

And what they get is a lot. “Each story has given us something different. Some have made us laugh, others have moved us and others have taught us things” , they assure remembering that of a Brazilian woman, married and with children, who was traveling alone through Europe.

They learned from her the importance of spending time with ourselves and our thoughts. “It is something that we all need to do, whatever our circumstances (…) She is a psychologist and she was tired of always listening to the problems of others, so she took two weeks for herself.”

That age does not matter and that the limitations we put on ourselves They learned it from a group of older men who, despite their failing health, continue to travel every year. The importance of opening up to the world and what it can offer us It was taught to them by an American girl who lives in China and who shared with them her opinion about the culture of this country and the differences between her and theirs.

And so, visit after visit to the airport, the list of stories grows. “It takes time to be able to do it. what we do is organize a few days a month to go to the airport expressly for this. We take the camera and we are there as long as it takes, both in the departures area and in the arrivals area.

“We tend to set a goal of how many stories we want before we leave” and they tend to target people they see as relaxed, waiting. “Little by little, we have been gaining confidence and that generates that people feel much more comfortable and open to sharing that time with us”.

They are going to need it, trust, since they say they want to continue collecting stories at the Madrid airport and they recognize that they “would love to have the possibility of being able to do the same thing in different airports around the world” .
