**Urbanowicz wanted to reflect with his work the care and admiration that Japan has for its buildings.** Each with his own personality and plenty of history behind them, the old shops were found to be the perfect models for it. “They were built in a period when everyone wanted to show their style and be original. , using the limited space and resources they had. This created a very original architecture, which is now changing with the new buildings”.

The inspiration for his creations is found in his walks through Tokyo. “It is a fascinating place. I go to different places, which are not necessarily very touristy places, looking for interesting things and sometimes painting on the spot. . I also take photos of interesting stores with the iPhone, which has geotagging, so I can find them later,” she explains.

"Of all the photos I take during my walks, I chose the best." Thus the Tokyo Storefront series was born, with which Urbanowicz managed to channel the fascination that these facades produced in him when he arrived in the Japanese capital more than three years ago from Kobe, where he had studied animation and comics. And it is that after trying electronic engineering in his native Poland, he realized that creating art could be more than just a strange hobby.

“I moved to Japan to be able to work in really creative fields, like comics or animation, which is quite difficult right now in Poland. I was also fascinated by the atmosphere in this country and wanted to explore it more.” tells Urbanowicz who currently works painting sets for animated films and Japanese television series.
