IATA will launch a mobile application with certifications for Covid-19 tests or vaccines
A few days after starting the vaccination process against Covid-19 in the United Kingdom and also designate December 21 as a possible review date on the BioNTech-Pfizer vaccine by the European Medicines Agency, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced the launch of the IATA Travel Pass mobile application, an app that will allow travelers to store and manage certifications for Covid-19 tests or vaccines.
The main purpose of the application is effectively mitigate the risk of importing Covid-19 , while from the Association they also seek to correct the confusion of the passengers about the different ordinances and the travel requirements of each country , in addition to facilitating the authentication of the documents that must be presented at the different airports.
To this end, they have aimed to concentrate accurate information on the health status of travelers in an application that is currently in the last stage of development and that according to reports from IATA will be available in the iOS and Android stores in March 2021.

"Inform passengers about what tests, vaccinations and other measures they need before traveling , details about where they can get tested and giving them the ability to share their tests and vaccination results in a way that is verifiable, secure and protects privacy is the key to providing governments with confidence to open borders. To address this challenge, IATA is working on the launch of the IATA Travel Pass , a digital platform for passengers", announces IATA on its official website.
HOW WILL THE IATA TRAVEL PASS APP WORK?
The application will allow passengers to create a digital health passport capable of storing Covid-19 test certificates and data on vaccination (once the person has been vaccinated), not only to verify that it is a sufficient requirement for their destination, but also to share test or vaccination certificates with the airlines and relevant authorities.
Passengers can also use the app in question to manage documentation digitally throughout your trip and find accurate information on the list of entry rules, tests and vaccination requirements to facilitate the overall itinerary.
"We expect IATA Travel Pass to be popular with airlines because it is being built with a deep understanding of the operational requirements and needs of its customers in mind." Also, as confirmed by the International Air Transport Association, IATA Travel Pass will be free for passengers , while it will be the airlines who will have to face a cost that has not yet been determined.
Once the application is available in March travelers must proceed to download it, log in, take a selfie with the phone, scan the data and the chip that contains the physical passport to validate a health passport that complies with the restrictions of each country.
The application will also be used to identify testing centers and laboratories at the place of departure that meet the standards for testing and vaccination requirements of the destination if necessary.
Secondly, from the Association add that there will be paper alternatives for people without mobile phones, and in the case of family groups, they are exploring how they can make the process more seamless and efficient at the airport.
