Camp (luxury) in the New York sky
The ** Hotel W in Midtown **, Manhattan, inaugurated last July a new experience of glamping never seen before in the jungle of glass. A campsite, although it has a glamorous touch, seems to be a concept away from the hustle and bustle of the city that never sleeps. But this has not prevented the Hotel W create an original atmosphere on one of its rooftops . It is one of its most exclusive rooms in the floor 17 with a balcony from which you can see the immensity of the skyscrapers.
The hotel has taken advantage of this space to recreate a glamping that is accompanied by decorations with a zen touch , an area with sofas, another with seats that sway like swings and even a huge tent that delights the little ones (also suitable for adults). The nomad-style tent is comfortable enough to spend the night in. The floor of the terrace is covered by a artificial soy grass that transports you, almost without realizing it, to another world that does not seem to be New York.
Sleep in a campground on the 17th floor of a Midtown skyscraper
Pablo-Andres Lopez , the hotel's head of marketing, was the thinking mind that made this concept a reality. “The W Hotel has collaborated on several occasions with major music festivals, such as Coachella, and I raised the idea of bringing that concept to this space ”, He tells us. The designer company Laurel & Wolf, located in Los Angeles, was in charge of designing the New York glamping.
“The reception this glamping has had is incredible. I never thought it would be in such high demand and I keep receiving e-mails requesting the suite”, the head of marketing tells us on an esplanade from which we manage to escape that energy that seizes every walker in New York. In this glamping the visitor can relax and disconnect from the world from the top of the Big Apple . The views are spectacular and the contrast between ancient architecture, coexisting with modern, is part of this adventure on top of a skyscraper.
Glamping has proven its resistance to storms and bad weather
The glamping at the W was inaugurated last July and was originally only going to be available until November, but due to its high demand, the experiment could stay longer . Both the furniture and the large tent have already offered great resistance to rain and storms , so the arrival of autumn and winter in New York are not feared by hotel workers. At night, you can wrap yourself up accompanied by candles and even a bonfire that is lit with a simple button.
Inside the room we find a spacious and elegant living room and a single bedroom with a bathroom. The Extreme Wow Suite It has been well received and Pablo-Andrés López confesses his future plans: “We would like to be able to collaborate again with Laurel & Wolf to create a similar space on the other terrace that we have available at the hotel”.
The luxury of being able to spend a night glamping in the middle of Manhattan ranges between 2,000 and 3,000 dollars a night, depending on the demand. In addition, the visitor can choose, for his stay, a special one night package which is accompanied by a bottle of champagne Veuve Clicquot and a consultation with the Laurel & Wolf interior design team, for an additional $500. A perfect plan if you fall in love with this concept and want to consider the possibility of moving it to your home.
