tableaux vivants ludovica rambelli

Caravaggio as you have never imagined

On the stage, six actors and some pieces of cloth. They stand in the center, and suddenly, in a hundredth of a second, a jump, a hug, an outburst, a miracle. Now there are no longer six, but one: a living tableau , born of a single and accurate movement. Impossible not to be enchanted by the picture.

The scene continues, and the artists put skin on various paintings by Caravaggio, that he never seemed closer to us. "The idea came from the director Ludovica Rambelli on the occasion of an invitation from the Luigi Vanvitelli University of Aversa, in 2006", explains Dora de Maio, director of the theater company. "She was offered to give a lecture on painting and the use of light in the theater and she decided, with her old company, Malatheatre, to do a performance on Caravaggio, the most theatrical painter what's up".

At that time, she Ludovica laid the foundations for the Tableux Vivants piece of her current company LudovicaRambelliTheater , formed together with De Maio: "Ludovica gave birth to the idea of using lighting and models in the way we do today, as well as constructing the scenes with fabrics", explains the director.

Today, they both have eight years making this piece all over the world that he will be May 17 and 18 in Las Palmas , and that puts on foot the painter's best-known paintings that can be recreated without a stage -that is, those that do not need external elements such as animals or architecture-.

"It's not exactly a show, but more of an exercise. The most important thing is the harmonic work between the actors ; they have to listen to each other and listen to the music at the same time, all in the calm state necessary to be able to 'freeze' the image. They must manage to breathe together. For this reason, we do not rehearse the Tableaux; simply, we have a training of several hours to get to work better in a group", the professional tells us.
