Switzerland inaugurates the world's highest tricable cable car

The world at our feet

The Matterhorn glacier ride is not a cable car to use, it is a 3S, a tricable system, which has just been inaugurated in Switzerland, in the commune of Zermatt (south) and its letter of introduction is to be the tallest in the world of its kind.

Scheduled to begin operations on November 3, the Matterhorn glacier ride covers the 3,940 meter length between the Trockener Steg mountain station and the Matterhorn glacier paradise ski area , on the Klein Matterhorn (at 3,883 meters above sea level) in nine minutes.

Total, 25 gondolas with 28 seats each one will be in charge of transporting 2,000 passengers per hour who will be able to enjoy the landscapes of Zermatt from the heights and, sometimes, with 360º views.

And it is that four of those cabins are part of the Crystal Ride category, whose design includes thousands of Swarovski crystals and a transparent floor through which you can see the 200 meters that separate them from the ground during the journey designed to be an experience: after three minutes of travel, when the cabin reaches 170 meters, the opaque floor clears up to offer the landscape at your feet.

The price of tickets to ride this cable car is included in the ski passes, except in the case of Crystal Ride, whose cost amounts to 10 francs (about 8 euros), if it is one way, and 15 (13 euros), if it is round trip.
