They are not popsicles: they are popitos

You have tubs and cones, but the star here It has a stick and they are the most refreshing for the summer. Gamela ice cream parlor was born in Baiona (Pontevedra) 32 years ago. "It was because of a thorn from my grandmother," he explains. Isabel Albores Today, behind the counter of the fourth branch of these already classic ice cream makers in Galicia. “V enimos from a traditional pastry and bakery family and my grandmother always wanted to have an ice cream parlor”, she continues, pausing for a moment to make the new artisan ice creams that she will serve this afternoon at the Madrid store.

It was Isabel who fulfilled her grandmother's dream and her success was clear . On the promenade facing the sea of Baiona they have two ice cream parlors, mandatory stops for locals and tourists; they opened a third in America Beach and exactly one year ago they launched conquer Madrid with its artisan recipes for creamy ice creams, which they themselves pasteurize and butter each day , with its fruit sorbets (gluten and dairy free), with its frozen yogurts and, above all, with its little popsicles , the star of the place.

don't call them poles , call them little popsicles . They are the star and that is why they welcome you in the large Chueca premises where you can sit quietly and enjoy their ice creams or smoothies or granitas. They have two types of popitos in Gamela: l what do they do with their creamy ice creams that they can be already coated or they let you choose the chocolate coating you want; and the popifrutas , “the ones that are sold the most in summer”, confirms Isabel, because they are only fruit, water and a piece of sugar.

They always maintain some basic flavors, such as vanilla and chocolate , and then they expand, trying new combinations and using seasonal fruits in the case of popitos and sorbets. Now, for example, " it is more time for red fruits ”, says Isabel pointing to some passion red popifruits.

And why Gamela? Perhaps the Galician pros or the sea lions already knew the answer. We had to ask. “ They are the traditional boats of Galicia that have no bow or stern”, Isabel Alborés tells us. Their edges are flat and they are used to go to the largest boats. The first Gamela Ice Cream Shop (and the second) was located on the seafront looking at these gamelas and, of course, the name was perfect: they are ice creams that transport you to summer on the beach.
