“I have surprised myself during this confinement wandering through google maps , so I propose every day to upload (to Instagram) an illustration of a place that I find attractive ”, said the illustrator Miriam Persand a couple of weeks ago on her account. Without the possibility of being able to travel, her source of inspiration during these days would be the walks through Google Maps Street View under the motto of #tourismtreetview.

How did you come up with this challenge?

It was one afternoon after finishing telecommuting, that I went for a walk. It is something I do sometimes to relax , but it seemed to me that at this moment it acquired a special meaning, so I began to draw what I saw and endless new landscapes opened up for me.

Why travel through Google Maps?

It all started by giving the mouse to move the map and falling in random places, That's how I got to Chiapas . Once I threw the doll in a place, I started walking through the streets and paths and that's how the first illustration came out, a chicken stand. Now when I find a place that I find beautiful or interesting, instead of taking a picture of it as I would if I were traveling there, I draw it.

Was it ever frustrating to travel without being able to leave home?

It is when I walk somewhere I've already been, because I remember what I ate, what I saw and I get a little silly. But overall it's being fascinating and I'm learning a lot about geography and architecture.

Of so many places that we imagine you came across on these "trips" that made you choose the ones you chose? What made them so special?

It all started randomly, but I try to go to places that are remote from each other. I would like to travel to more inaccessible places, but Street View doesn't work in places like North Korea, China, or much of Africa.

When all this happens, what will be the first destination you plan to escape to?

I have a trip to athens that I had to postpone, these days I should be in the sun drinking ouzo and eating dolmades, and here I am, in front of the computer. As soon as all this happens, I will prepare the suitcase running and I will still take the opportunity to extend the trip and also go to Meteora , which must be impressive.
