This year 247 applications have been received, 20% more than those presented last year, of which the web platform specializing in rural accommodation has selected the 10 finalists under some Minimum requirements: have less than 10,000 inhabitants, bet on quality rural tourism and not have competed in previous editions.

Now it is the turn of the travelers, who must choose this year's winner. Starting today, the popular voting period opens to elect the winner through this site, which will remain open until next May 14.

In addition, just by voting for your favorite town you can win a getaway for two to one of the ten finalist locations, among which are Daroca (Zaragoza), Ortigueira (A Coruña), Aia (Guipúzcoa), Chelva (Valencia), Olvera (Cádiz) and Sepúlveda (Segovia).

On May 18, the name of the new Capital of Rural Tourism 2021 will be announced and the winning participant of the rural getaway. You can check the full list of candidates here.

“We are convinced that this new edition of the contest will attract the interest of all those travelers who enjoy rural tourism, thus supporting an initiative that aims to promote this type of tourism while giving visibility and valuing the rich ecosystem of towns that we have in Spain” explains Empar Baños, EscapadaRural.com press and events manager.

Continuing with the dynamic established in the last three editions, ten travel bloggers will sponsor the finalists acting as ambassadors. Through their blogs and profiles on social networks, each of them will support the assigned municipality and attract more votes to make it the Capital of Rural Tourism 2021.

Throughout its four previous editions, More than 1,000 towns have participated in the Capital of Rural Tourism competition. Of these, the 40 finalists (10 for each edition) have become part of the Finalists Network created to inspire rural travelers getaways.
