Madrid, world leader in FIESTA
The report (made by The Social Cities Index and commissioned by Hostelworld ) is a “comparative study of the social life of the cities of the world”. To reach such an ambitious goal, the social behaviors and attitudes of 12,188 residents in the 39 largest cities in 28 countries* were analyzed. They voted through ten categories on their social habits and on more than 12,000 cities in the world (those with the largest population).
The most striking result, the world ranking of the most sociable cities. And the first places will not stop surprising you: Sweden wins.

We already said it back in 2014: Gothenburg It is a vibrant city, with 24/7 plans and a quieter nightlife than the Spanish but not at all “Swedish”. Here, just by stepping on a street, you will understand: Andra Langgatan it is still the epicenter of its life, with street parties and live DJs in summer and bars and pubs to toast with craft beers at any time of the year.

MADRID, FIRST IN THE RANKING OF "LA FIESTA"; BARCELONA EIGHTH
The same Hostelworld study breaks down the different categories of that "sociability index". Among them: the frequency to meet friends and the (wonderful statement) 'Any excuse to party' , both indices place Madrid in the top 3 as we can see in the attached graph. Madrid becomes the best city in the world in which to find an excuse to party and the second city in which the frequency with which to make friends is greater (only behind Jakarta!). The study finds that, in Jakarta, they "socialize" an average of 151 times a year but only eat out about 18 times a year.
From Hostelworld they also highlight that Madrid, Moscow and Gothenburg are the great beasts of the night, followed by Jakarta, Saint Petersburg, Seoul, Dehli and Barcelona.

WHAT ABOUT LONDON, PARIS AND BERLIN?
The study echoes the remarkable absence of the three European capitals in the ranking. The cause? "Despite showing three vibrant scenes, the local residents of these three cities simply don't socialize as often as residents of other cities (...) Here the 'social opportunities' are reduced to special events and not something that happens daily".
