On how not to sleep twice in a stilt house...

Palafitte 41, of the Hotel Palafitte

The first time I stayed in a palafitte over the sea I myself had located the establishment while I was documenting myself for my trip to the island in question. Wooden palapas with penca roofs on a Caribbean Sea intense blue color caught my attention and I had no doubts: "I have to sleep in one!", I said to myself. My experience made me discover that a destination that is supposedly "idyllic" for the rest of the world does not have to be for you.

Once there, sleeping was an impossible mission. And it is that Nobody knows for sure how our body will react to unknown environments. . The bed was gigantic even with a canopy and the sea appeared before my immense, beautiful and calm terrace. But you can't fall asleep.

I finally blamed my Caribbean insomnia on noise of the jungle , to the sea, to those little fish jumping every two minutes in search of food, to the insects trying to get through the fabric desiring my blood, to the neighbors on their honeymoon. My experience had nothing to do with that of the rest of the hotel guests , who slept peacefully rocked by the waves that gently broke on the shore.

Apparently, 'urban animals' like me need cars on the road , the garbage truck or the telemarketing at one in the morning, even, if you rush me, the fights through the plasterboard walls. However, and although we are lovers of stridency and treble, other types of sounds disconcert us, disturb sleep and cause discomfort (no matter how much we are in the right place). most luxurious Y perfect of the world) .

How do I know? Because, indeed, I have returned to 'sleep' in a stilt house. This time in a five star on a lake surrounded by mountains and vineyards . Really, no offense to anyone, it may have been (if not the best) one of the best hotels I've been lucky enough to stay in so far. But I couldn't sleep either.

Aware of my problem, I tried to find another explanation, since on this occasion the waves were very weak (because yes, a lake has waves) and only one native bird entertained me with its song during the night. I couldn't find it and I hate to take away this stale memory of a 68 square meter room with a jacuzzi as big as the lake itself that it overlooks.

So I have come to a conclusion: unless they build a stilt house on the pond of the Withdrawal with nearby traffic Alcala Gate and the crowd of athletes with their bikes, skates and tricycles, I will never again sleep in a room that rests on the water... Because it will be the only thing that rests in that room.
