Google Duplex arrives in Spain to confirm business hours during the crisis situation
In 2018, Google introduced the world google-duplex , an artificial intelligence capable of interact with businesses and customers to make reservations and other activities using surprisingly natural language.
Thus, this service linked to the Google Assistant gets automate some user tasks that normally have to be done by phone call, such as reserving a table in a restaurant or making an appointment at the hairdresser.
Until now, Google Duplex was available in the United States - with pilot programs in New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada - but This May, Duplex lands in Spain –and in Spanish– to inform us about the situation and schedules of the establishments due to the health crisis.

During the Google I/O 2018 conference, Sundar Pichai, current CEO of Alphabet and Google, blew the audience away with a demo in which a machine talked to a person in a totally natural way
“An artificial intelligence (AI) system to perform real tasks over the phone” , this is how Google Duplex was introduced to the world.
What kind of tasks? “The technology is aimed at completing specific tasks, like scheduling certain types of appointments. For such tasks, the system makes the conversation experience as natural as possible, allowing people to speak normally, as they would with another person, without having to adapt to a machine”, they explained at the conference.

Google Duplex has arrived in Spain, but we must qualify such a statement, since its arrival responds to the crisis situation in which we find ourselves as a result of Covid-19 and the system will not be open to users.
Therefore, the function of Google Duplex in our country is that of confirm the opening hours of the establishments through Google Search and Maps.
How does Google Duplex work in Spain? Right now, Google Maps offers us information about the situation of the establishments thanks to two sources: either it is provided by the business owner himself or it is researched and searched by Google.
If the second case occurs, Google Duplex will be the one to find out if a business is closed or open and what its hours are during the current situation, calling the establishments found on Google Maps and asking for their hours to update them.
Therefore, we will not be able to use Duplex to make reservations nor for any of its other functionalities.

Although its functionalities are currently limited, The fact that Google Duplex speaks Spanish makes us consider its expansion in our country when everything happens.
