Larios Café, Mediterranean dinners and long nights

Larios Coffee

The colored nights.

Came back the restaurant, bar and club, all in one, that once was king of the Madrid night.

It was back in the 20th century, in 1999, when we still talked and paid in pesetas, when Madrid was still a party. then appeared Larios Cafe, a new leisure proposal in the city that started early and ended late and put a lot of interest in the decoration in a world that had not yet imagined something called Instagram. For that design, in fact, the architect and interior designer Thomas Valia won the National Prize for Interior Architecture in 2000.

Almost two decades later, in a very different night scene in Madrid, Larios Café returns. Now it is common for restaurants to become improvised drinking venues because the after-dinner table lengthens, the lights go down and the music goes up, but there is nothing spontaneous here, rather it is a total and clear proposal from afterwork to dawn. “The new Larios Café is a multifaceted leisure space where we can find a gastronomic offer with care, a reference cocktail bar, live music, an open space in the open air or a nightclub where you can dance to the most current rhythms”, he explains Antonio Extremera, owner of the new premises.

Larios Coffee

Dinner or dance? Dinner and dance.

For those who knew and were regulars at the original Larios Café, this differs "because a high gastronomic offer, an elaborate cocktail bar”. He is in charge of the kitchen part Nacho Garcia, chef formed with Berasatagui, Roncero or Chicote, and who has created a menu "based on slow food, inspired by Mediterranean cuisine, but also with nods to other culinary cultures”, he tells us. "Our main objective is to take care of the raw material, using local products of the best quality." That is why it will be a seasonal offer, in which seasonal products will have the maximum role.

The menu can also be paired with the cocktails offered from the bar, of course, based on gin (and Larios to be more exact). They can also be enjoyed after work in the space open to the outside or, at night, with music.

And if something stands out again in this space, it is the decoration. 18 years later, they have once again relied on Tomás Alía for the design, who this time has looked to the Mediterranean for inspiration, as does the letter. There is a reason to do it, Larios was the first Mediterranean gin, created in Malaga in 1866, and that data is transformed into vertical gardens or vegetable prints in the new premises. Bright and colourful, white, gold, green and pink dominate in a game of mirrors, noble fabrics and metals.

WHY GO?

By to revive old times if you got to go to the old Larios Café. By create new memories in this reopening. And to test the bocinegro tiradito, “a perfect balance between unctuousness, freshness and citrus flavours”, says Nacho García. Or the monkfish with romescu, his reinterpretation of the calçotada. EITHER salmon with gin and tonic. All three, the chef's favorite dishes.
