Palace of music
This building, masterpiece of modernism , was created in 1908 by the famous architect Lluís Domènech i Muntaner as the headquarters of the Orfeó Catalá choir. Although the exterior is not very flashy, the interior houses an unimaginable sumptuousness. The concert hall is enclosed in walls obtained through polychrome stained glass windows, illuminated by natural light. The background of the stage is decorated with the representation of a series of modernist ladies, each one with a musical instrument. Nevertheless, the showpiece is the magnificent skylight , which decorates and at the same time illuminates this room.
The building was declared by UNESCO World Heritage.
The sculptural figurehead of the Palau is an allegory to the popular Catalan song, with Saint George , towering over the female personification of music, who appears surrounded by children, an old man, a sailor, peasants and members of high society, as a symbol that music belongs to everyone regardless of their social status.
