Petit Restaurant in Ramses

Three different styles, three different gastronomic proposals. Very showy places where you eat well... Even very well.

RAMSES BY RICARD CAMARENA

At last it seems that a good chef is bringing this Madrid restaurant designed by Philippe Starck , until now gastronomically cursed. Will Camarena and her team be able to transform it into something more than a place for drinks and posturing?

To take the pulse of the kitchen, avoid weekend nights when the atmosphere is clubbing. The variety of spaces confuses a bit: champagne bar, terrace, club, two restaurants...

let's put order . If you are looking for something informal and you can stand the music and the shouting, you should stay in petite and order oysters, chicken croquettes, cod fritters, anchovies, salad or the house hamburger. The same low-cost offer on the terrace , in case you want to smoke or need fresh air. To enjoy a good meal with views of the Puerta de Alcalá, make a reservation at restaurant (better a half day during the week).

Choose from the menu proposed Jose Marin –Camarena's man in Madrid- or the suggestive letter is not easy. Seasonal vegetable stew, penjar tomatoes stuffed with pesto and anchovies (very good), tear peas with trotters and truffle, tuna parpatana with turnips... I want it all, I'm incorrigible! Dishes with breadth and depth. A recital. For dessert, coffee with nuts: not to stop! The work of Minerva Tapiel in the room he deserves a 10. Hopefully he finds a team capable of keeping up with him... the one now still lacks a lot of service.

Plaza de Independencia 4. From €25 to €65. It doesn't close.

NO

The name of the restaurant is already a declaration of principles. It is in the busiest alley -and posh- of the Salamanca district, where the mythical the protection, champion of modernity in the eighties. Its promoters want to stand out from the rest and proclaim their nonconformity, his will NOT to look like anyone will they get it?

Its 100% comfort food menu, the Xabier Márquez signature. Repeat typical and topical specialties : ham croquettes, Russian salad, hamburger, fried eggs with potatoes and ham, Roman style hake... Dishes that are not to fail and come off with flying colors; especially the hake, juicy and very well fried. The cosmopolitan touch They put some pieces of sushi, like the eel temaki with avocado; the fashion note, a list of gin and tonics made with premium gins and all sorts of garnishes –this makes me a bit bored-.

I like the decoration, the terrace and the food. I am amused by the public : Nati Abascal with her friends or Cayetano Rivera with her girlfriend. The service needs an urgent improvement and the soundproofing of the place too: I can't stand screaming between bites.

Alley of Puigcerdá 8. From €30 to €55. Closed Sunday night and Monday .

ALBORA

It is the only place where it can be done. a vertical tasting of Iberian ham : try pieces of the same “Joselito” brand from different years and therefore with different maturation times (4, 6 and 7 years). A stimulating experience with which you learn and enjoy. Along with the perfectly cut ham, a tasting sheet is displayed. In addition, the cutters behind the bar respond with a smile to the third degree to which we subject them as curious customers. Thank you!

Albora Restaurant

Two floors, two rooms, two offers. down the bar , to eat tapas without breaking the budget (croquettes, salad, casseroles). up the restaurant , more elegant and formal, ideal to go with parents or in-laws, they will love their traditional bourgeois cuisine dishes.

José María Marron -sommelier- and Jorge Dávila -my favorite maitre- They make sure that everything runs smoothly, even when unforeseen events arise, such as the heating breaking down on the day it snows in Madrid. When I come back, I think of repeating the low-temperature egg with mashed potatoes and chickpea broth or the cod cheeks with tomato pil-pil, but each time they offer me something new, and they are right! What I do not change for anything is the caramelized French toast with ice cream , especially now that Easter is coming and we have to do penance.

Jorge Juan 33. Closed on Sunday nights From €25 to €60.
