Verbena traditional kitsch in Malasaña

Verbena: authentic kitsch in Malasaña

As kitsch and as traditional as its owner, Laura , the mother of the child, more from Madrid than a chotis and an Almodovarian personality. As much as the bikinis that she designs for her brand Laurin 13 and as the magazine in which she collaborates (and even for which she has been the cover): Antonia, and as much as the chulapa suits that she wears on any occasion that is required (or just suggest).

The other half of Verbena, Ale, the proud father, is also not far behind when it comes to pride of the small country. Both met in La bici (another of the great temples of modernity in Malasañera today), when tired of his professions (he comes from the world of advertising) they stood behind the bar of a bar "to have drinks" . And, precisely there, under the shelter of a bar counter -as great stories almost always emerge-, Verbena began to take shape.

And that is how Ale and Laura (Design + advertising) came together to create this fun place, which seeks to combine something that they missed in Malasaña: a very Madrid bar but at the same time very modern, which could combine the crossed concepts of Ardosa or Camacho with Naif , and where you could stay all day and mix people from the neighborhood, moderates and grandparents, adults and children, dogs and children...

Churros Amy Winehouse

Churros + Amy Winehouse

Colored light bulbs, red carnations, a letter inspired by the pennants of the fairs , and a neon that recovers the: “Here you don't trust” are among the details of its aesthetics. There is everything on the menu: from classic tapas such as bravas, charcuterie boards or ali-oli to dishes of the day (dessert drink and coffee for 6.90, among which, of course, there is no lack of tripe or a stew.

To drink: tap vermouth, glasses (from 6 to 8 euros) and even the mythical yayos (tap vermouth, gin, siphon, which have been baptized here as viejoven and served with olive and orange). All served in the glasses that Laura has "stolen" from the sideboard of her mother's house (her father had a pub in the 80s) and accompanied by good music (even from time to time with a playlist by Las Grecas, Los Chichos...) . Verbena is in Velarde. Open from 9.30-12, and Friday and Saturday from 10 to 2.30. on weekends a special breakfast: "if you haven't dipped the churro, come dip it with us", says her motto.
