Eat like a French at Philou.
If you die for him Paris of the photographs of Brassai , you'll love the Canal St. Martin neighborhood in the 10th Arrondissement. Once a working-class neighbourhood, it now embraces the creative class (there are loads of art directors and web designers), which explains the good new restaurants. The best is the cozy Philou , decorated with lamps Ingo Maurer and blackboard walls on which the daily menu is written in chalk. The owner, Philippe Damas , who used to run the popular Square Trousseau , is a fan of the best genre of each station. And the clients – couples of all stripes (boys with boys, girls with girls and girls with boys) – are nice people and without pose.
What to ask for: you could start with vegetables and snails in a light pesto sauce and continue with cod on a bed of lentils cooked in broth and seasoned with carrots, onions and chopped bacon. Don't miss the sublime chocolate cake with dulce de leche ice cream and the epic baba au rhum (drunken cake).
