Sorry, Paris: In October Berlin is the city of light

The German capital shines brighter than ever

If in Silvester, the New Year's Eve party, fireworks have as much prominence as grapes in Spain, in October it is time to do luminous tricks in two similar events: the ** Festival of Lights ,** which this year celebrates its tenth edition, and the **Berlin Leuchtet (Berlin shines) **. There had to be something good about it starting to get dark so soon.

The Konzerthaus, an illuminated jewel

Think about the architectural symbols of Berlin . The Brandenburg Gate, the Alexander Platz Television Tower, the Reichstag, the cathedral... They are worth admiring on their own, but all of them become gigantic canvases and the city in an open-air museum thanks to the creative efforts of artists from all over the world. There are ten days, until next October 19, in which the visible face of the city changes completely at sunset and in which color becomes the most consumed hallucinogenic substance. There are more than 70 light projections those that make the German capital shine in a big way from seven in the evening. Berlin as you have never seen it before.

Germanic efficiency has made this celebration of light the most important light event in the world. Lumissimo , halfway between classical music and a rave party, is one of the clearest examples of how the Germans are capable of taking their hobby to paroxysm. Hundreds of beams of light shine to the beat of Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" , played by the organ of the cathedral (Berliner Dome) , and a harp made with lasers twins light and sound.

Berlin, all lights and spectacle in October

Music has a lot to say in this festival. Jazz in den Ministergärten -a garden between Potsdammer Platz and the Brandenburg Gate- also combine open-air concerts with light art on October 17. But it is not unusual to find that many of the shows at the Berlin _Festival of Light_ collaborate with other disciplines such as sculpture or theatre.

Light and projections in every corner

Just before the Festival of Light arrives **Berlin Leuchtet begins, a similar event that goes a little further** and also ends on October 19. It goes something further because it is not only monuments and large buildings that are part of this chromatic explosion, but also includes bridges and public parks in the capital and other techniques such as video projections or three dimensions (3D). It also differs by the fact of having a specific theme in its programming. This edition began on the 2nd with the motto Weltbühne -Stage of the world- and explores the differences between East and West.

During these days the city also organizes tourist routes on foot, by bike-taxi -illuminated, of course-, by boat on the river Spree and even by hot air balloon from which to admire the main shows of these ambitious light exhibitions.
