In early 2017 a group of friends from Los Angeles were on their way to spend the day at the Joshua Tree National Park , in the California desert . A wonder among the desert Mojave and the desert of Colorado , characterized by its unique flora, such as its trees and rocks, as well as its starry nights.
“Everyone went on a road trip to visit the client's plot of land in Joshua Tree. As I stood there, amid the barren landscape and overhanging rocks, one of the friends said, “You know what would look great here?” says Traveler.es, architect James Whitaker.
It will be the first container house in the California desert.
And just like that, it was like the unnamed film producer met with him in his London office to design his future vacation home in the desert. As simple as that!
The house will work with solar panels.
This futuristic work is made of sea containers and will occupy about 200m2. “The house sits on a hillside that extends over a lake, where stormwater has created a small ravine in the landscape,” notes James.
Its construction is as well as elegant, functional. That is why each container is oriented to maximize views of the landscape, although with the necessary privacy.
Three bedrooms where you can appreciate the light of the desert.
The house will have three bedrooms with bathroom, kitchen, living room, all in a kind of skeleton made up of containers. In addition to a garage with solar panels to guarantee the energy of the house.
“The biggest challenge with a project like this is finding the right team of people to work with. When you work with really good people, and the team is working really collaboratively, the rest falls into place,” he tells Traveler.es, James Whittaker.
A living room to be lost forever.
It is not the only project of this magnitude, his office has already carried out similar madness. But possibly the container house is one of the most ambitious that he has made. At the moment they don't know how long it will take to finish it, but they will start in 2018.
