After leaving us speechless with the recent inauguration of the futuristic Beijing Daxing International Airport , the renowned British architecture studio is preparing to sign another milestone in the history of contemporary airports.
Last Tuesday, October 29, the team of Zaha Hadid Architects announced his selection among forty applicants national and international for, together with Cox Architecture (COX) , carry out the design of the project -inspired by native nature-, although still it is unknown when it will be ready to operate.

The Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport , baptized with the name of the australian aviation pioneer -he got his pilot's license at the age of 19-, will be located in Western Parkland City , which aims to become the third largest urban nucleus in the city.
The objective is stimulate the growth of the western zone of sydney , and the new airport will play a key role in its development.
The airport design blends in with the surroundings
The work will be divided into four phases. , beginning with an initial stage of 10 million annual passengers by 2026 , achieving the figure of 82 million and thus becoming the largest international gateway to Australia in 2060.
Zaha Hadid Architects and COX have devised a sustainable design for the entire airport complex, contemplating future expansions. To this end, the plan integrates the use of light and natural ventilation and recycling of water , in order to make efficient use of energy.
" The design is inspired by the local flora of Western Sydney and its natural qualities. These spaces, colors and materials have been incorporated into the design to give the airport an unmistakable regional identity", he commented in the presentation David Holm, director of transportation and infrastructure projects at COX.
For its part, Cristiano Ceccato, director of Zaha Hadid Architect s stated that “ it is an honor to have been selected for this incredible project , which draws inspiration from both traditional architectural features and the surrounding greenery.”
