MARRAM Montauk

MARRAM Montauk

A refreshing breeze straight from the ocean, the dense and warm sand under your feet and a view of a peaceful horizon that never goes out of style. Life in Montauk – neighbor of the Hamptons and in Suffolk Countyit is simple, quiet and without a hint of wanting to be something more than a place to forget everything . Some have tried to put it in the spotlight with tendentious purposes, but being a place whose origins hark back to a fishing village with horse ranches and a surfer vibe , the purity of his identity is still going strong.

"The surrounding properties are constantly being renovated, trends come and go but Montauk nature is timeless ", bill Atit Jariwala, Founder and CEO of Bridgeton , the company behind the new hotel in the area which takes its name from the plants that grow in the dunes: Marram.

The accommodation is perfectly located just a short walk from the town center and the sea, combining the best of two worlds. On the one hand, the nature that makes Montauk unique. On the other, the culture responsible for putting it on the map from its inception. “We felt that this niche in the market could only be filled with something meaty,” continues Jariwala. And it is that the substance of the site of Marram feeds from the Atlantic Ocean , on the farthest shore of New York amicably referred to as "the end of the world".

"Consequently, being in front of the sea allows our wellness mantra come to life even more through an offer that includes walks around the area, meditation sessions, workshops (this summer the Lelabo brand –Responsible for providing the amenities of its rooms– settles in the hotel with sensory and aromatic experiences) and yoga on the beach, "he describes. Although another of its attractions are the surf lessons with brothers Leif, Ariel, and Lexi Engstrom . "The Engstroms are a local family of surfers with which our clients can learn to surf, but also to sit and watch the waves with our Surf Check program. For us this sport is very important and we wanted to have subject matter experts who were also members of the community.

Marram successfully plays a new standard of essential luxury , with 96 rooms, a communal lobby, shop and pool overlooking the beach that cast aside the extravagant complications of its style.

"We always say that our hotel is a 'luxury boutique hotel to go barefoot' because we want our guests to feel comfortable and to make it easy for them to unwind and enjoy simple pleasures, whether it is with a dip in the sea at sunset, discovering the crispy socarrat of a paella –one of the house specialties– or a bonfire on the beach," he says.

Each and every aspect of Marram's decoration mimic the distinctive Montauk vibe, with Brian Bielmann photographs decorating the walls, white oak ceilings and walls that recreate the warmth of worn wood and the pines. Mahogany and bronze railings for furniture fittings give the feeling of having been hardened under sunlight, combined with sculptures by Isamu Noguchi and rustic jute rugs from In Residence; as well as dense linens and towels that soften interiors.

"Each of the pieces has been designed to be logically connected to our vision for the property," says Jariwala.

To make the hotel even more original and attractive, the gastronomic program comes from Uruguay with Fernando Trocca and Martin Pittaluga –also behind the restaurants Counter Santa Teresita and La Huella – and a concept that revolves around the idea of community and the spontaneity of Latin American cuisine. "Similarly to the hotel, we want to get rid of all pretentious stigma you can wrap up the gourmet kitchen and we do inspired by roasts and grills ", comment the chefs.

Marram's relationship with Fernando and Martín began when Atit Jariwala was on vacation in José Ignacio, Uruguay , last year.

"I fell in love with their restaurants, their style and the way they go out of their way for local ingredients, as well as the authenticity they bring to their kitchen," says Jariwala. Together, they have collaborated to create an experience where suffolk vegetables are the protagonists of grill , With fresh protein, paellas –They dedicate a special night to them together with the roasts– and home made pastry , served in a communal dining room.

"This gives our guests access to world-class, laid-back cuisine just steps from their rooms, while giving hotel visitors an added incentive to enjoy our facilities without having to stay in them." But there is more: this summer Il Buco restaurant will set up a pop-up at the hotel starring its breads and salami, cocktails infused with herbs, natural juices and grilled fish.

The similarities between Montauk and José Ignacio are more than palpable , a compelling reason for being the site chosen to expand horizons by Trocca and Pittaluga. "Both have a similar climate, the type of clientele and a location on the coast. But the most important thing is that the two places share a certain air of sophistication "explain the chefs.
