This is the new US National Park.
The United States has to its credit 62 national parks , authentic natural jewels that cover kilometers and kilometers of extension. One more was added last December 2019, thanks to a bill signed by Donald Trump; the last since a national park was named Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore , in February 2019.
Under the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2020, the White Sands National Monument , in southern New Mexico, has been officially designated as US National Park.
This monument, named one of the natural wonders of the world , is located in the basin area of Tularosa , located 25 km southwest of alamogordo.
A completely magical landscape for photographers and tourists.
Its white sand dunes, which cover 710 km2 , are made up of gypsum crystals , and although formerly they were exploited, in 1933 it was declared a national monument, so it became protected.
The curious thing about this landscape, a favorite for photographers from all over the world, is the plaster. Despite being a common mineral in all the rocks of the world, what allows it to become sand is water . White Sands is a completely humid environment, so with the help of the wind this plaster has become a large white sandbank.
The dunes at White Sands probably began to form about 10,000 years ago. when Lake Otero began to dry up, according to the park's tourist service.
He currently receives some 500,000 annual visits , and it is expected that thanks to this new appointment they will increase much more.
Tourists who visit it usually rent sledges to slide down its dunes, drive through them, have lunches or walks in the light of the full moon.
