Exciting, unwavering, legendary. The love story between cinema and fashion constitutes a most inspiring journey through genres and styles, designers and directors, actors and actresses and of course, costumes and memorable scenes.

That close relationship stars in the exhibition Cinema and fashion. By Jean-Paul Gaultier , an eclectic journey led by great creators and artists and under the personal eye of the designer, artistic director and co-curator of the exhibition together with Florence Tissot , film expert at La Cinémathèque française.

The show delves into the context of creating costumes in the cinema, paying special attention to female empowerment and its reflection in the fashion and filmography of the 20th century.

Pieces of Coco Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Pierre Cardin and Sybilla; iconic looks worn by Audrey Hepburn, Sharon Stone, Grace Kelly, Catherine Deneuve or Madonna; the suits of superman, The mask of Zorro either Rocky... All these precious creations are also presented together with audiovisual projections, original posters and film photographs.

ONE, TWO, THREE… ACTION!

The unique gaze terrible child of fashion –who has designed the costumes for many films– introduces us to an unprecedented adventure through two scenarios that are masterfully intertwined: that of the big screen and the catwalk.

The exhibition, dedicated to the memory of filmmaker Tonie Marshall, brings together a heterogeneous set of more than 100 pieces of clothing shown in near 80 looks, excerpts from more than 90 movies and 125 graphic representations (posters, sketches, frames and photographs), between originals and reproductions, which come mostly from the collection of The Cinémathèque Française and that are complemented with works by more than twenty national and international providers.

How to forget the dresses worn by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast with diamonds (1961) ! Now we can see them up close. Among those 80 iconic looks we find the pieces worn by Catherine Deneuve in The Mississippi Mermaid (1969) and 8 Women (2002); Grace Kelly in Rear Window (1954); Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct (1992); Marilyn Monroe in Eve naked (1950); marlene dietrich in The Song of Songs (1933); Penelope Cruz in the girl of your eyes (1998); Brad Davis in Querelle (1982) or the corset she wore madonna on his 1990 Blond Ambition World Tour (designed by Gaultier himself).

FILM AND FASHION MARATHON

Cinema and fashion. By Jean-Paul Gaultier It is divided into five areas: Falbalas, ♂ ♀, Transgressions, Pop and Metal and Parades. Five sections that delve into topics such as inclusion, irreverence, humor and freedom, values ​​that have always characterized the Gaultier house.

These values ​​will be revealed thanks to the genius with which the creator has developed this great adventure that reflects on the concepts of modernity, future and eroticism; addresses issues like the emancipation of women and the influence of rock, punk and queer cultures; and notice heterodox figures of warriors and warriors, androgynous and transvestites.

ACTIVITIES AROUND THE EXHIBITION

Along with the exhibition, there will be different talks –grouped under the title Culture of Fashion– and the film series Prêt-à… Regarder!, which will make fans of the cinematographic arts and the culture and history of fashion enjoy even more.

fashion culture will start next March 31 at 7:00 p.m. with Build Beauty , a conversation about fashion and architecture between Manuel Blanco and Isabel Margalejo.

On April 6 it will be the turn of the dialogue On fashion and art , between Palomo Spain and Coco Capitan; and on April 20 will take place Speaking of fashion: from Proust to Susan Sontag in which they will participate Carlos Primo and Charo Mora.

Finally, on April 28 we will be able to attend Dressing music: from the counterculture to the mainstream where they will talk Sita Abellán, Marta Salicrú and Leticia García.

the film cycle Prêt-à… Regarder!, curated by Rossy de Palma, who maintains a close and long relationship. The actress has selected five feature films in which for her the relationship between fashion and cinema is paradigmatic and essential. Before each film, unpublished videos will be shown in which Rossy de Palma will tell us the reason for the selection, the relationship with fashion, off-camera... and much more.

The films in question that make up the program are: Kika (1993) by Pedro Almodóvar (March 4), ready-to-wear (1994) by Robert Altman (March 11), Who are you, Polly Maggoo?
