Interior of the Jim Thompson House Museum
There are stories that have no end, neither good nor bad; we simply do not know and cannot conclude them. Thus ended the life of Jim Thompson, shrouded in uncertainty and mystery when he disappeared in Malaysia in 1967 without a trace. And who was the enigmatic character? Jim Thompson he was the one who revitalized the silk market in the East ; This American settled in Bangkok in the mid-20th century and knew how to get a business out of a luxurious material longed for by the West that he saw in these soft fabrics, an object of incalculable value due to its exoticism and delicate texture.
Currently his house is a whole museum for its wealth, for the art collections that Thompson owned (splendid sacred and profane objects) and the curious nature of its construction : six houses brought from other places in the country and full of the luxury with which the American surrounded himself. We recommend a free walk through the gardens of the housing complex and, of course, take a look around the shop windows, where there are products of the best silk that require more than a pocket effort.
