Untitled 1949, by Clifford Coffin
Paolo Roversi, **Steven Klein** David Sims , Erwin Olaf , Michael Thompson , Mario Testino , Irving Penn , Annie Leibovitz... are some of the photographers you can see in Vogue: Like a painting. Thirty years of images that go from the Vogue archives to three rooms of the Thyssen Museum in Madrid.
The composition of Vermeer's women, Hopper's light, the tempo of Degas's dancers (to whom the art critic John Berger dedicated his verses: “You say that the leg supports the body / why have you never seen / the seed in the ankle / from where the body grows? ) are filtered through the lenses of contemporary artists.
“The first room is more strictly like a painting, it is centered on Pictures ; I have called the second room Versailles , there the visitor will be able to find haute couture, interiors, groups, more 'society'; and the last room is the largest, the garden room, the essence of what I associate with the Thyssen museum: impressionism ”, explains the Director of New Projects at Condé Nast and curator of the exhibition, Debra Smith.
The exhibition invites you on a walk through the most creative and mysterious side of fashion photography where you will find the reflections of artists such as Peter Lindbergh: "the history of art and the biographies of the great painters and artists have helped me understand that is the most important: find a language that is authentically yours and reflects your own personality ".
