In the Plaza del Dos de Mayo there will be neighborhood bars, concerts and cultural activities.
On the day that the people of Madrid celebrate the uprising against Napoleon's troops, there are many activities proposed by the municipalities of the Community of Madrid: the exhibition The Books of Miguel de Cervantes, at the Cervantes Birthplace Museum in Alcalá de Henares ( from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.), the IV War of Independence 1810 Historical Reenactment, in the Plaza Mayor of Colmenar de Oreja (12:30 p.m.) or the CA2M 10-Year Anniversary Concert at the 2 de Mayo Art Center in Móstoles, among others. But There is nothing we like more than going to the Malasaña neighborhood to participate in its neighborhood festivals. Because yes, May 2 is our day, a date to remember and honor, but also to celebrate.
ON THE STREETS
The bulk of the free events in Madrid will take place in Malasaña, like every year for the past ten years, thanks to the Maravillas Platform, a confederation of associations that manages itself, participates disinterestedly and represents the entire neighborhood.
People will take the squares of Dos de Mayo, Comedadoras and San Ildefonso from early in the morning and no one will leave the streets until 12 at night (time when you have to leave or enter the bars so as not to disturb the neighbors).
The morning will start for the little ones with a family bingo and drawing with liquid chalk (10am) and will enjoy a youth concert by rappers Enzo and Sánchez at six o'clock in the afternoon. Visitors will also be able to participate in the parade claiming the end of the festivities against the expulsion of traditional businesses and neighbors (6:30 p.m.), after having lunch at noon next to the neighborhood bars, the food that can be brought from home.
Thanks to the agreement between neighbors and merchants, Until 11 at night it will be possible to buy beer and soft drinks at popular prices in these bars that, in addition, are supportive: the money collected will go to the solidarity entities that help refugees Proemaid and Red Solidaria de Acogida. And remember, the euro deposit for the recyclable cups – also refillable in the 'friendly bars' of the parties – will be returned when the container is returned.
So that the Fiestas do not end like May 2, the organization asks for cleanliness and respect for the neighborhood.
ON THE STAGES
From half past one on Wednesday there will be different concerts and musical shows in the three squares of Malasaña, among which stand out, the performance Alma Flamenca at 8:20 p.m. and DJ Be Fresh at 9:30 p.m. (both on Dos de Mayo), Bleset in San Ildenfonso at 9:00 p.m. and DJ Lovers an hour later, and Faneka's progressive folk at 8:30 p.m. and Biweeks at 10:00 p.m. at Comendadoras.
Also outside the neighbourhood, in other locations, music will take over Madrid on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Festimad 2M. At eight p.m The Andalusian Rock Festival will take place at the WiZink Center in the capital with the presence on stage of Medina Azahara, Grupo Alameda and Triana. And Eddie & The Hot Rods + PVP + The Gold will do the same in the Sol room (9:00 p.m.) and the Swedish Rock'n'Roll band Jetbone at La Boite Live at number 26 Tetuán Street (9:30 p.m.).
In addition, in collaboration with the Madrid City Council, the Teatros del Canal will join the celebrations of the Fiestas on May 2 with the performance by the artist Martirio, who will perform the most popular songs from her repertoire together with the Municipal Symphonic Band of Madrid and under the direction of Rafael Sanz-Expert (8:30 p.m., €3).

AT THE CINEMA
Among the weekly program of Cinestudio del Círculo de Bellas Artes, one of the most representative theaters in the capital, we find titles as attractively from Madrid as those projected for May 2: The Crime of Embroidered Street, by Edgar Neville, Héctor, by Gracia Querejeta, The Tobacconist of Vallecas, by Eloy de la Iglesia and the award-winning Thesis, by Alejandro Amenábar (4:30 p.m., 6:15 p.m., 8:10 p.m. and 10 p.m.; one ticket: €4; full-day pass: €10) .
IN THE HEIGHTS
Coinciding with the Fiestas of May 2 and San Isidro, The Madrid Cable Car will remain open for two full weeks: from April 30 to May 6 and from May 14 to 20. So if you want to enjoy this festive day from above (40 meters maximum), you just have to go to one of its two ticket offices – on Paseo del Pintor Rosales or in Casa de Campo – to buy the ticket and get on one of its 80 cabins with capacity for six people (from 12:00 to 20:00; adults i/v: €6; children from 4 years i/v: €5).
