Ca'n Miquel

Artisan and daring ice creams.

You are on a route through Mallorca, the heat is starting to get hot and the only thing you want is a very tasty ice cream to continue the walk. On the island many ice cream parlors have become an essential stop for its menu of flavors, tradition and history which, in many cases, goes back even centuries ago.

But, which ones are the best? And the most traditional? Where are they? Here it goes a small itinerary in search of the richest ice cream, of this summer refreshment through Palma, its capital, as well as some of its best-known and most beautiful towns. Can you come with us?

Ca'n Joan de S'Aigo

Ice cream in a glass, Queen Sofia's favourites.

CA'N MIQUEL _(Carrer Montcades, 9, 07012 Palma) _

Ca'n Miquel ice creams are a true classic of Palma, since they have been working in their ranks for three generations, researching to create new flavors capable of surprising the most demanding palates. The family business started in 1979 and the letter already has over 90 ice cream options very different of an extraordinary quality.

The salty ice cream was one of the family bets and one of the best known is the Of olive oil used in gastronomic dishes. In this sense, they have also become popular garlic and hot pepper ice cream, cream of prawns or Roquefort cheese.

However, for those who prefer something more traditional to enjoy at the moment, we will find many other flavors and nothing less than 24 options of chocolate ice cream. Jamaican is one of the specialties but, yes, keep in mind that its taste is rather bitter.

Ca'n Joan de S'Aigo

With the ice cream, always an ensaimada or a quarter.

CA'N JOAN DE S'AIGO _(Carrer del Baró de Santa Maria del Sepulcre, 5, 07012, Palma) _

Undoubtedly, Ca'n Joan de S'Aigo is another of the essential ice cream parlors in Palma and is so popular that sometimes you even have to queue to sit down for a mid-afternoon drink at its location on Carrer del Baró in Santa Maria del Sepulcre, near the busy Avinguda Jaume III.

In recent months, this ice cream parlor has opened its third location on Avenidas, another of the city's busiest streets. However, if we have to choose, we especially like the business that opened the first of all, in 1700, located on Carrer de Can Sanç. As a curiosity, this is also queen sofia's favorite when she is on holiday in Mallorca which, by the way, is usually very often and it is not very difficult to come across her.

If you visit any of these three places, do not forget to try almond ice cream because they say it is the oldest on the island. If you accompany it with an ensaimada or a room, much better, because here they prepare them delicious. If you allow us to say so, the quarters are a lesser known cake, but they are our favorites.

Gelats Paco

Fresh and seasonal products.

GELATS PACO _(Carrer Benet Pons i Fàbregues, 18, 07007, Palma) _

When Paco arrived from Valencia in the 1930s and began working as an itinerant ice cream vendor in the old town of Palma, he probably never thought that the ice cream parlor that he opened back then, after much effort, on Carrer Benet Pons i Fàbregues, would continue to operate ; or that he would even open a second location on Carrer Blanquerna with the same name.

Their artisan ice cream have won the approval of many on the island, especially because they offer the flavor and texture of yesteryear, always using fresh seasonal products. The letter features many fruit ice creams, depending on the season of the year, such as banana, mango or green apple. We even find some lactose free options water-based, such as strawberry with orange, tangerine or melon. Simply delicious.

Sa Gelat Factory

100% natural, fresh and creamy.

SA JELLY FACTORY _(Plaça des Mercat, s/n, 07100 Soller) _

Another of the recommended places on the island is in the town of Soller, located in the idyllic Serra de Tramuntana, northwest of the island, one of the most beautiful and quiet areas, away from the tourist bustle of other areas of Mallorca.

Our voices (or our keys) do not shake when we say that it is worth the trip here, because there is nothing more pleasant than enjoying an ice cream taking a walk through this picturesque place that has become the commercial and cultural center of the Serra. If we prefer to rest, the place has a terrace to relax watching village life go by.

Sa Fàbrica de Gelats was founded in 1994 and here they prepare an artisan ice cream known for being 100% natural, fresh and creamy, made with raw materials from the island. The family says that their secret is that they use cream and milk, as they used to prepare the ice creams of a lifetime. We will find creamy ice creams, like the one from almond, fig, tangerine or roxer, in addition to delicious and very refreshing fine sorbets.

** IT IS COLONIAL (Hostal Colonial, Carrer Gabriel Roca, 9, 07638 Colonia de Sant Jordi) **

The family that owns the Es Colonial ice cream parlor says that they have a hobby of attending the ice cream fair that takes place in the Italian city of Rimini every year to investigate new flavors and create new ice creams to surprise their customers.

Without a doubt, they achieve their goal. Their menu is very varied because they have three types of ice cream: the common, the ecological and another vegan. we will even find some savory and more daring options, such as spicy sobrasada or trempó, a typical salad of the island prepared with onion, green pepper and strong peeled tomato and olive oil.

The location of this ice cream parlor is ideal. Located in the southeast of the island is Colonia de Sant Jordi, a well-known vacation spot among Majorcans who know well that this is one of the best areas for summer because it is close to the best beaches: Es Trenc, Es Dolç and Es Carbó.
