The map, commissioned by the Nature magazine and directed by the astronomer Brent Tully of the University of Hawaii , reflects what is known as Lanikea , a supercluster of more than 100,000 galaxies and 500 million light years , reports Europe Press.
In a video produced by Futurism.com, it can be seen that Lanikea is a kind of shiny filament cluster s, where galaxies accumulate. Each point of light is an individual galaxy and each one of them harbors in its interior billions or perhaps trillions of stars.
Before Lanikea's conception, scientists grouped the Milky Way in the Virgo supercluster , which, however, has turned out to be only a small part of a larger supercluster. And it is that, despite the fact that Lanikea's size is impossible to assimilate, it is still one more of the superclusters of the universe. A kind of large-scale Russian doll.
