With our eyes and attention focused on the most emblematic building in Barcelona, we have new news again. The rise of the last six towers of the temple of the sacred Family progress and it is expected that that of the Virgin Mary –which now reaches 134 meters– is completed on December 8 of this same year . That day, in the context of a great celebration, the twelve-pointed star that will be placed on its top will be illuminated, which will give it 4 meters more height than it has now.

The Tower of the Virgin Mary will be the second tallest tower, after the one dedicated to Jesus , which will crown the city, once completed, with 172.5 meters high . The details of what this top of Barcelona will be like have been released this week by those responsible for the work.

As explained by the architect director of the works of the temple of the Sagrada Familia, Jordi Faulí, "the terminal of the tower of Jesus Christ will be finished off by a glass and white ceramic cross 17 meters high with four arms that will have a wingspan of 13.50 meters wide”.

At daytime, this cross will reflect the sunlight and, at night, thanks to the power of some spotlights, beams of light will be projected from it over the city. This symbol, the next Barcelona icon due to its highest elevation on Barcelona's global horizon, it will be passable inside, a true viewpoint above all.

Tower of Jesus Christ and Virgin Mary Holy Family

The Tower of Jesus Christ will become the representative symbol of the Barcelona sky.

The date of its completion cannot be specified yet. Without tourist visits due to the pandemic and its slow recovery, this being the main source of income for construction, the announcement of 2026 as the completion date for the temple works, coinciding with the year of the death of the architect Antoni Gaudí , has been blurred.

Precisely to economically encourage the works in their final sprint, the temple itself has launched the bell We'll finish, to motivate and increase donations to Gaudí's work which, as a sacrificial temple, has been self-subsidized since its inception.

As explained by the director of the Construction Board of the Sagrada Familia, Xavier Martínez: "If the situation evolves favourably, the visitor forecast for 2022 is 30% or 40% of what we had in 2019”.

STAGE OF THE VIENNA PHILHARMONIC

Last September 17, 400 people were able to attend the Sagrada Familia basilica to the preview of the concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra , held the following day in the same space and produced by RTVE for the European Broadcasting Union.

Gaudí's temple was one of the settings chosen by the Austrian orchestra, which selects iconic places in Europe to perform a series of concerts in which he performs the complete Bruckner symphonies.

still unfinished, the Sagrada Familia continues to be one of the main attractions of Barcelona . Little by little it continues its journey, complying with architectural plans that place it as one of the most spectacular buildings in the world.
