All roads lead to… Lugo! And the reason has the name of a Roman emperor: Julius Caesar , of the artist diego ace , has been chosen as the best mural in the world of 2021 by the platform Street Art Cities, whose ambitious mission is to document all the street art of the world.

Every year, Street Art Cities reveals the list of the best murals in the world and, after three weeks of voting and more than 60,000 registered votes, the wait has come to an end.

Diego As and his Julius Caesar of him tops the list of the 25 best murals in the world of 2021 , a ranking in which Spain has much to celebrate since they have been selected eleven murals from our country, six of them in the top 10.

“This ‘Best of’ is not about being the best, but about share the street art and teach the general public about this influential contemporary art. We hope this can help and support narratives with municipalities and communities and raise the necessary funds so that there are more of these beautiful projects”, they point out from Street Art Cities.

Standing 20 meters tall, Julius Caesar is proud of his new and prestigious title: the best mural in the world in 2021.

His actor? the urban artist Diego Anido Seijas, better known as Diego As. "I'm from the walled city of Lugo and I've been painting graffiti or urban art on the street since I was 15 years old with spray," Diego introduces himself on his website.

In addition to his hometown, Diego As has works in cities like Oviedo, Malaga, Madrid, Barcelona, ​​Granada, Porto...

“A dream come true” This is how the artist summed up how he felt once Julius Caesar had finished the work. The mural, located in the Round of Wall 133 (Lugo) , was held in 2021 on the occasion of Arde Lvcvs 2021 and is part of Urban Cores , a project that will progressively embellish buildings and public spaces in the city thanks to the pictorial technique of graffiti.

Diego As commented to Street Art Cities that the statue of Julius Caesar met the ideal aesthetic conditions to link Lugo with the ancient world adapting to the environment: "we had to ask Heritage for permission because being next to the wall we couldn't use many colors and that's why it only combines different shades of gray".

The idea of ​​Urban Cores is that every year they can be painted three different facades And this is one of them. Also, "This appointment with urban art includes activities and graffiti workshops aimed at the most disadvantaged young people." The proposal was received with open arms by the Youth of the City Council of Lugo and local graffiti artists participate in it together with muralists from outside the community.

After Diego As and his Julius Caesar, the second place in the ranking is occupied by the artist Martin Ron , which he has placed four of his murals among the 25 best murals in the world.

Third place went to Tymon de Laat , with the mural of him located in Bonaire (Dutch Caribbean).

Positions 4 to 7 are for murals located in Spain (Denia, Murcia, Burgos and Triacastela) and made by Tardor, Dale Grimshaw, Pink Dye and Mon Devane.
