The best 'challah' in Barcelona is made in this new restaurant in Eixample

The 'challah' is a Hebrew bread that is prepared every Friday for Shabbat , the Jewish tradition that brings the whole family together around the table and that lasts until the next day. It is a braided, spongy bread that does not contain dairy and that is delicious and addictive in the mouth. Much more if it is accompanied by good dishes.

in the new restaurant Funky Bakers Eatery de Barcelona (between Calle Diputació and Bailén) is the star dish, although they have given it a more fun and original touch: a huge braid of challah is served freshly baked with various spreads of baba ganoush, roasted tomato with labne and spicy tuna.

Behind this idea is shayma , a great hostess of Turkish origin but based in Barcelona for 10 years, who left marketing to open Pinhan , a Turkish-inspired gastronomic oasis that in a few months became the flagship of the Turó Park neighbourhood. From there she launched into the bakery, where she moves like a fish in water, and opened Funky Bakers , one of the best pastry shops in the city located in El Born. Three years later, she embarked on a double adventure: opening a Delivery and restaurant, cafeteria and bar in the Eixample Dreta neighborhood.

A LETTER FROM TURKEY TO THE WORLD

In Funky Bakers Eatery you can breathe a cosmopolitan atmosphere, thanks to its cuisine, and a fresh decoration by Weareblankslate who wanted to minimize construction waste, maintaining the beauty of the original structure and delivering an economical, practical and beautiful project; a subtle backdrop to the star of the show, the food, because here the kitchens are on full display and you can enjoy their creations live while you eat.

The recipes that you see on the menu are so familiar that Sheyma also prepares them for her entire family, perhaps for this reason, you will notice that they are made with great care. It is true that many dishes have Turkish origin, but they are fused with Asian, American and European cuisine.

“From morning to night, visitors can enjoy and witness how we cook and how we do everything with a lot of love… It was a dream and we achieved it! The house is always full and we are very excited to share this dream with everyone from day one," Shayma explains to Traveler.es.

Funky Bakers Eatery main courses are divided according to their cooking method . There are two options in the pan: sea bass and peeled prawns served with a green salad along with a long baguette toast and caramelized chicken with tamarind and sweet potato. Baked, the star dishes are the classic Turkish 'borek' with preserved lemon and ricotta stuffing and the za'atar-marinated lamb with palace rice (a rich, contemporary dish with roots in historic Ottoman cuisine).

In the casserole there are options as succulent as the cooked chickpea stew with coconut milk and turmeric, with fresh mint and a dollop of spicy cold Greek yogurt or with caramelized onion and eggplant orzo finished with buttermilk sauce and lemon zest.

For desserts, in addition to original Funky Bakers classics like the San Sebastian-style cheesecake , there is a range of sweets in constant evolution; from the 'lemon pie' with Swiss meringue to the caramelized apple with gold leaf. You will not be able to resist their pastry table, it is a delight for both the eyes and the palate.

For drinks, Funky Bakers Eatery features natural wines cured by Cuvée 3000, craft beer from Caravelle, craft sodas, and specialty coffee from Nomad.

Your letter will be changing according to the season , starting this week they already introduce the spring and summer changes. “We will have the Robata (Japanese grill) in which we will prepare vegetables and sirloin.
