“Since 2013, the number of dog beaches has grown remarkably. There were about 14 beaches and now there are more than 80 spaces to go with a dog in summer ”, Verónica Arnedo tells Traveler.es.
Her initiative encouraged many citizens to start collect signatures locally , since authorizing access to dogs on the beaches is the responsibility of the city council, and thus the number of canine coves scattered along the Spanish coast began to increase.

WHAT IS AN OFFICIAL BEACH AND TYPES
“The official beaches must be approved by the city council in question and included in the BOE , in her section on the use of beaches in the municipality, ”Verónica Arnedo explains to Traveler.es.

"These, although they tend to have stricter standards and the size is smaller, in my opinion they are the best. In most cases they are in tourist beaches with fine sand , where pets and owners can enjoy a quiet day at sea”, Arnedo affirms to Traveler.es.
Lastly, we can find beaches such as Cala Saliencia, in Cudillero (Asturias); Cala Cementiri, in Ametlla de Mar (Tarragona); or the dog beach in the port area of Dénia (Alicante). They are more neglected than the previous ones, they are difficult to access and, in some cases, even dangerous.
“I don't know if they are better seen socially or if one day they will be because unfortunately there is still uncivil behavior on the part of some users. What is certain is that today our dogs are part of our family , and there are more and more who are encouraged to take them on vacation as one more member, something that did not happen before, "concludes Verónica Arnedo.
