Awesome Maps is a project that lives up to its name by creating a series of fascinating maps that differ from the rest by highlighting the main destinations in the world to practice surf, diving, hiking , mountaineering or all kinds of outdoor activities.
So much so that through endless illustrations they have sought to capture different data related to general theme of the map that are of great interest to adventurous spirits and, above all, to wanderlust souls.
"We search the internet, we go through the pages of books, we talk to people and we engage the community to gather the best information and ideas for illustrations . We always involve experts in their field to create a map. In fact, we are currently working on a paragliding map and for this we have turned to Nuno Virgilio, a professional paragliding pilot who holds the record for the longest flight in Portugal", says Luana Tăbîrcă, a member of the Awesome Maps to Traveler.es.

In the case of surfing, for example, the map includes information on the best beaches in the world to catch waves , the level of skill needed to surf there, the height of the waves, the temperature of the water in every corner of the globe, when is the ideal season to travel and possible places with shark attacks , which is generally low in most waters.
THE MAPS OF THE MOST ADVENTURE DESTINATIONS IN THE WORLD
It all started with surfing … that sport that does not understand borders, but rather freedoms and sensations that are difficult to transmit if you have not yet lost yourself in the immensity of the ocean or in the waves with a board. So it is not surprising that Simon, the architect of Awesome Maps , he is passionate about travel and, of course, the sport in question, which has led him to embark almost ten years ago on a surfing adventure through an infinity of places, among which the beaches of the north coast of Spain, Portugal Y France.
Shortly after finishing his tour, he set out to mark all the places he had surfed, but he was a little disappointed to see that the pushpins only took up 1% of the map. That is why at that moment he decided create a map that will inspire you to travel , and that also included the different surfing regions of the world.
Through years of effort and a great team, Awesome Maps managed to build surf trip , the perfect map for surf lovers , which brings together on the same canvas a total of 1,000 surf spots with all the useful information that Simon has been able to collect on each of his trips.
However, not all of their creations revolve around surfing, given that in recent years they have also launched a dive map , of fishing, mountaineering , dedicated to kitesurfing, golf or even the best places in the world where it is possible to ski and snowboard. "Everyone at Awesome Maps loves being outdoors and we only make maps that we're passionate about . We also get our ideas from the community and get excited pretty easily, so when someone suggests an idea, if we agree, we'll just make it happen!" adds Luana.
In addition, the company's upcoming releases include a paragliding map, a new travel map with the most instagrammable places in the world , a canvas that will show the best routes to make a road trip through Europe and moving away from travel a bit, a map of dogs that will show native breeds from all countries.
Since this year coincides with the tenth anniversary, they will soon be announcing a child map that combines animals, culture and food from everywhere, so that children can have fun while learning as a family.
Although they do not design custom maps , mainly because of the time that each one of them takes, they can add individual illustrations to the already existing maps, such as a location that they added on the canvas of snowboarding for a wedding gift.
