Objects tell stories and those who sell in HECHO speak of being made with love

That we need to surround ourselves with beauty, create exciting spaces and environments that comfort us is something that some already knew and that others have learned with the pandemic. We are no longer worth those neglected flats that, if we hardly stepped on them, were home, but not home. From that letting oneself be enveloped by beauty, HECHO was born, in part, the new design store in Madrid where not only the objects that are sold there are important, but also the history that they carry with them.

Because DONE is about beauty and good taste in the home, but also about take responsibility when buying, that not everything is worth it, that we wonder what is behind that object that we carry in the bag. If you wouldn't invite anyone to your house, why would you put anything in?

Sustainable, local and affordable design in this new store in Madrid

“Where is it MADE, what is it MADE of, what is it MADE with, who is it MADE by and what is it MADE for”. Everything that passes through the doors of the number 2 Quesada street, next to Plaza de Olavide, has previously had to respond to these questions.

“HECHO was born with the idea that We understand that there is a lack of a reference design store in Madrid and, on the other hand, that we realize that it is very complicated to trace or know how each product is made” , tells Traveler.es Enrique, one of its six creators.

Transparency as a mantra. So much so that even the furniture that covers the 25 square meters of the store is. So that everything looks more, of course; but they do not miss the opportunity to joke that it is as transparent as they intend all their objects and production processes to be.

“We decided to jump into the pool, start looking for brands that were a bit related, that could really provide us with that information and we realized that there were so many that we had to discard them because they didn't give it to us."

Among those that do provide it and, therefore, have become part of the first collection of FACT are European brands like Ferm Living, Maarten Baptist, Valerie Objects, Jars, Maarten Baas, Santa & Cole, Saber or Hay.

What is sold in HECHO is born from a responsible production process

They opted for the Old Continent, for its proximity and being able to guarantee that what is sold in HECHO is born from a responsible production process. And it is that, as they comment, it is not necessary to take for granted that an object has complied with it because it presents minimum quality standards.

“Responsible production is one that takes into account several factors: where the material comes from, what it is, what environmental impact it has, how the workers are treated and what conditions they have. As we saw that it was super complex, we have focused on that comply with European regulations, Henry explains.

And it's not so obvious. After a year of searching and investigating, they realized that in many cases it was impossible to reach the zero point in traceability and in others, they did not find** the perfect object, one that is sustainable, affordable and design at the same time.** For this reason, they decided to dare, in addition, with creating your own line.

The Argentine writer Ernesto Sabato said that it was admirable that man continued to fight and create beauty in the midst of a barbaric and hostile world. Well, the six creator friends of HECHO set out in search of him, in search of those artisans, designers and local factories that dedicate their day to day to making the beauty that often surrounds us.

Because design can be beautiful and responsible at the same time

"In that own collection we do exclusively reward proximity, it has to be made as close as possible", They count to start listing that those delicate colored glass trays Mirenchu makes them in Mallorca, with a process he has tailored to fit FACT's philosophy of being durable and affordable; that curvilinear colored candles are a thing of the Pampa boys, who as a result of this collaboration incorporated soy wax into their production; or that the precious tablecloths are a textile factory in Córdoba and they have been embroidered in Alcalá de Henares following a drawing by the designer Ana Olmeda….

From mixing the selected pieces of European brands with their own line, a collection of everyday objects with a conscious design, committed to proximity, a timeless image and a sustainable spirit because they are designed to last and to be useful. The 'for life' from before, that flees from fast-consuming and inevitably leads to more responsible consumption.

With an undisputed protagonist: table. Tablecloths, cutlery, crockery, glassware… “It emerged as a result of the pandemic because we realized that, in the end, you end up eating more at home, having dinner with friends and that has to be something exciting. We love the ceremony of eating, enjoying the table, after-meals, and that's where the idea came from” for this first collection, he says.

HECHO is about beauty and good taste in the home, but also about taking responsibility when buying

Later, in future collections, they will reach into the kitchen because "we lack design in the pots, in the utensils, in the shovels" and they have also thought, in the future, daring with the living room, launching into textiles with blankets and cushion collections.

And it is that, perhaps, after having spent so much time at home, we have realized that “It has to be a pleasant space that transmits sensations, that helps you to be able to work, to be able to concentrate when you are eating, to be able to relax when you want to read or to have fun and get excited when you have a party with friends, and that is only transmitted through beauty”

Hence the importance of power. provide aesthetics to our homes so that, among other things, they do not resemble each other; and that this possibility is something affordable.

"We Believe that the design has to be affordable and for all budgets: there has to be a range with things a little cheaper and things a little more expensive. It can't be that suddenly craftsmanship has become elite and unattainable”.

It was like this, with that vision, during one of the post-quarantine walks, that FACT began to take shape: “We believed that there was a niche and a gap between design fast food and craftsmanship, and we launched ourselves”.
