There is no better cover letter for Yendry than her song with the most listens: 'Chick'. that simple, published in April 2020 , tells the story –sung by an exceptional voice and to the beat of a catchy rhythm– of Italian-Dominican singer , that to their 28 years she is managing to dazzle music lovers from all over the world.

“'Nena' narrates a blessing It is the song that represents me the most. It is the story of a migrant mother –in this case, mine– that come back for your daughter because it is very far from her”, explains Yendry to Conde Nast Traveler Spain.

"'Nena' narrates a blessing".

“When my mom went to Italy, she left me a year in Dominican Republic with my grandmother and the rest of my family. She always tells me that she was the most difficult year of her life. So I thought of all those migrant mothers who haven't seen their children for many years, a sacrifice they make to give them a better life. 'baby' is a tribute to all of them and, above all, mine. Thanks to her I'm here." she points her.

Although this artist born in Santo Domingo and raised in Turin –Where hers moved when she was four years old–, she has spent her whole life giving off an intense passion for music, it was as a result of her appearance in Colors Show –the musical platform that gives visibility to various artists from around the globe– when she managed to strain her magnetic energy on the screens of a large number of listeners who were not known at the time.

“I have always liked music, but since I took 'Neighborhood', I decided to start my solo career and also open up to the public and share my story. Thanks to Colors, the flower opened completely”, says Yendry to Conde Nast Traveler Spain.

Such was the success of 'Nena' that the single began to appear on the Instagram stories of artists of the stature of Karol G or J Balvin, with whom she just launched the theme 'Instinct'. Mozart La Para and Damian Marley They have been other recognized voices who have shared a studio with the Italian-Dominican artist.

“I contacted Damian through his producer, who I was working with. He told me, “I think Damian is going to connect with your energy because you give music a lot of weight in your life.” Then I met him and we started jamming in the studio. that's how it came out 'You'”.

"With J Balvin she had been talking for a long time, so one day I was in New York and he too I proposed work together in the study. It seems that collaborations are somewhat more complicated but arise naturally, in the end we are human”.

Although we know that she is currently working on an album –which will combine topics in English and Spanish–, we cannot help but wonder if it is brewing some other explosive collaboration.

“I have many dreams out there... I would like to collaborate with Frank Ocean, Alizzz or Nathy Peluso”, Yendry reveals to us, who, for the moment, has a date to make one of her great wishes come true:

“In March I will give a concert in the Dominican Republic thanks to the festival isle of light , which has a poster that will give visibility to artists that are not normally seen on the island. I am very nervous and excited about it, since It will be the first time I perform in my country”, she comments she to Conde Nast Traveler Spain.

“My family is what I like most about traveling to Santo Domingo, in addition to the feeling of community we have: Even the neighbor is your friend. In Santo Domingo you go out on the street and you always greet someone. I don't have time to get bored,” she says between laughs.

Santo Domingo can boast of being the city where its roots lie, where most of your family lives (eye, having 43 cousins is not trivial) and where the feeling of community is manifested in its maximum expression; but Turin will always be the city that has seen it grow.

Despite the fact that she currently does not have a base destination (and does not know what her new place of residence will be), what this globetrotter is clear about is what does she miss when she is on tour:

“To mom (and her kitchen), to my brothers and my friends. When I'm on tour, even though I do what I love, I often miss human contact. That is why, when I return to Turin, I try to spend as much time as possible with the people I love”, confesses Yendry.

Barbiturates It is the restaurant in the Italian city where it would not be unusual to find Yendry in the company of his friends having a drink or even dancing on the table. "The owners are already our friends, we always go there."

Enjoy the Italian gastronomy and a glass of wine in one of the restaurants in his hometown is one of Yendry's favorite plans; but, yes, he recognizes that there is no dish capable of competing with her mother's chicken mincemeat.

Before embarking on his solo journey, the nominated for Best New Artist at the 2021 MTV Millennial Awards she was part of a jazz band and a electronic and experimental music group called Material.

And speaking of voyages, what destinations has she landed on in the last few months? "I was in Miami one month , but right away I started traveling for work. I've been to New York The Angels, Paris... One of my last destinations was Mexico, there I sang at the Corona Capital festival. I received a lot of love, there were a lot of people and they sang all the songs with me. It was exciting" , she tells Condé Nast Traveler Spain.

“I had already been a couple of times, one of them I was on vacation for a month. Mexico is amazing. I like to eat a lot, so apart from its incredible gastronomy I would tell you that what I like most about the country is that It has a very deep culture. I loved visit its pyramids, find out how the mayans They were precursors of many things that are part of today's society, I enjoyed his art, his music... I would love to live there for a while inspire me to compose she confesses her.

And where she would also return, without a doubt, is to the Canary Islands. “I thought it was going to be more touristy and not at all. I was in Lanzarote and the truth is that I fell in love. I also visited Gran Canaria Y Fuerteventura, but I liked Lanzarote a lot”, says Yendry.

Barcelona, Gijon, Saint Sebastian, Saragossa Y Pamplona have been the other corners of the Spanish geography through which Yendry has walked, surely, at the rhythm of Ella Fitzgerald, Whitney Houston, Beyonce –Three of her great references – or, why not, of emerging voices such as Maye or Nicki Nicole.

And although she does not rule out acting in any of them in the future, the artist is clear about what her next stop will be: “I would like to hold a concert in Spain , when I release the album I have to go there. I have to come back to sing and to visit Madrid”. So be it.
